Kasabian celebrate seventh Number 1 album with Happenings
The Kasabian boys displace Taylor Swift to claim a seventh chart-topper
Kasabian claim a seventh Official Number 1 album with Happenings this week.
The eighth studio album from the Leicester rockers, comprising Sergio Pizzorno, Chris Edwards, Ian Matthews and Tim Carter, joins Empire (2006), West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum (2009), Velociraptor! (2011), 48:13 (2014), For Crying Out Loud (2017) and The Alchemist’s Euphoria (2022) in the group’s tally of chart-toppers.
The band also boast two further Top 40 LPs: 2004 debut Kasabian (4) and Kasabian: The Albums (22), a boxset of their first three studio releases.
Speaking exclusively to Official Charts, Kasabian’s Sergio Pizzorno says:
“What’s up, pop pickers? That’s seven Official Number 1 albums on the spin. Thank you to our fans, the greatest in the world. We’re nothing without you, we absolutely adore you!
Receiving their Official Number 1 Album Award, Kasabian say:
“That’s wonderful, f**k yeah! Come on!”

Kasabian now level with blur, Muse, The Prodigy, Paul McCartney, Barbra Streisand, Elton John, Cliff Richard and Ed Sheeran, all with seven Official Number 1 albums apiece.
Happenings also tops this week’s Official Vinyl Albums Chart, the most popular record on vinyl of the past seven days, and the Official Record Store Chart, the most-purchased physical LP in independent UK record shops this week.

After spending eight non-consecutive weeks at the summit, Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department is down one to Number 2. Official Charts Company data recently revealed The Tortured Poets Department to be the UK’s Official biggest album of 2024 so far, having shifted in excess of 542,000 chart units since its release in April.

Congratulations are in order for Chappell Roan, as the rising Missouri pop auteur sees her acclaimed 2023 LP The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess break into the UK Top 5 for the first time this week.
As he releases his much-anticipated 12th studio album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), Eminem’s ever-reliable Curtain Call: The Hits lifts two (7).
Meanwhile, with Stevie Nicks preparing to headline London’s BST Hyde Park this weekend, Fleetwood Mac’s timeless 50 Years – Don’t Stop collection is also on the ascent, up four in a return to the Top 10 (8).
Oklahoma-raised country star Zach Bryan nets a career-best with his fifth studio album The Great American Bar Scene this week (16). Previously, Bryan enjoyed Top 40 success with his self-titled 2023 LP (22).
And finally, as they bring its namesake tour to London’s The O2 for a six-night residency, The Killers see their chart-topping 2023 hits collection Rebel Diamonds leap 14 spots (32).
