Kanye West v Kodaline for this week’s Number 1 album!
Dublin’s Kodaline take on global mega-star Kanye West in the battle for this week's Number 1 album.
Kodaline are going head-to-head with Kayne West in the race for this week’s Official Number 1 album.
The Dublin rockers’ debut full-length, In A Perfect World, is in pole position on today’s Official Albums Chart Update; however the quartet face tough competition from Kanye West, whose new album, Yeezus, was officially released in the UK yesterday.
After less than 24 hours on sale, Yeezus is just 1,800 copies behind In A Perfect World, and debuts at Number 3 on today’s Update.
Current Official Albums Chart topper, 13 by Black Sabbath, is down one place to Number 2, while Rod Stewart’s Time (4) and Icelandic post-rock outfit Sigur Rós’ new studio album, Kveikur (5), complete today’s Update Top 5.
New entries
In addition to Kodaline’s (1), Kanye West (2), and Sigur Rós (5), there are five other new entries on today’s Official Albums Chart Update.
J. Cole, who was the first signing to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label, looks set to debut inside the Top 10 this weekend. The North Carolina rapper’s second album, Born Sinner, is at Number 6 at the halfway stage. His first album, Cole World: The Sideline Story, peaked at Number 25 on the Official Albums Chart back in 2011.
Award winning composer Hans Zimmer is also set to score his highest charting album to date with his soundtrack to the new Superman film, Man Of Steel (9), while New Zealand soprano Hayley Westenra is on course for her sixth Top 40 album. Hayley‘s new collection of traditional lullabies and mellow musical songs, Hushabye, is new in at 25 today.
And finally, The View’s new Best Of album, Seven Year Setlist, and US rapper Mac Miller’s second album, Watching Movies With The Sound Off, are currently at Number 35 and Number 39, respectively.
