Justin Timberlake secures his first solo chart topper in nearly seven years with Mirrors.
Justin Timberlake cruises all the way to Number 1 today with Mirrors, his first solo chart topper since 2006 smash, Sexyback.
The US star, who performed at the BRIT Awards the week before last, was neck and neck with London quartet Bastille earlier in the week, before pulling away to end the week 13,000 copies clear of the competition at the Official Singles Chart summit today.
Mirrors is the ex-*NSyncer’s second solo Number 1 in the UK as a lead artist, and his fourth overall including hit collaborations 4 Minutes (with Madonna) and 2007’s Give It To Me (with Timbaland and Nelly Furtado). Mirrors is taken from Timberlake’s forthcoming third album, The 20/20 Experience, which is due for release later this month.
Bastille pick up their first Top 5 placing today with Pompeii (Number 2), taken from the band’s upcoming debut album Bad Blood (out tomorrow, March 4), meanwhile One Direction slip two places to Number 3 with Comic Relief charity single, One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks). Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’s former chart topper Thrift Shop finishes the week at 4, with Avicii Vs Nicky Romero’s I Could Be The One completing this week’s Official Singls Top 5.
New Entries and High Climbers
Aside from Bastille’s Pompeii (Number 2), there are three other new entries on today’s Official Singles Chart Top 40.
Following the success of his chart-topping single Heatwave and its Number 3 follow-up, Can You Hear Me? (Ayayaya), Wiley clinches his third Top 10 single in less than twelve months with Reload (Number 9). The track also features guest vocals from Chip, the artist formally known as Chipmunk.
BRITs Critics’ Choice nominee Laura Mvula arrives with her first Top 40 hit, Green Garden, new in at Number 32, while Paramore snare their fifth Top 40 single with Now (39).
The week’s highest climber is Adele’s Skyfall, firing 11 places to Number 14, following the London star’s Oscars win on Sunday. The Official Charts Company also recently announced that the Blu-ray/DVD release of Skyfall became the fastest selling Blu-ray ever, topping the Official Video Chart with mammoth combined sales of nearly 2 million copies in its opening week.
