US star gnash is about to dominate charts around the world, but just who is he?
Off the back of hitting the UK Top 10 with his breakthrough hit i hate u, i love u, the Los Angeles-born singer-songwriter and DJ will perform live on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge tomorrow (June 21), showcasing his globetrotting single and to take on a cover of his choice.

1. gnash - real name Garrett - is a 22-year old singer-songwriter from LA who writes and produces music in his garage. That means he may be able to help you fix your exhaust too. That last part is just a guess though.
2. He has built a core following through his SoundCloud account and a series of increasingly popular DIY fan gigs in parks, where he sells homemade merch, including tie-dye t-shirts and his signature round sunglasses.
3. His debut single i hate u, i love u ft. olivia o'brien has been building organically around the world since he put it online in 2015, and has had 140 million Spotify streams, 33 million plays on SoundCloud and 22 million plays on YouTube. Not too shabby.
4. He has just been announced for Reading & Leeds in August, which will be his first UK performance. Quite the way to make your mark!
5. "i hate u, i love u" ft. olivia o'brien is taken from his us EP. The new EP follows gnash’s two previous EP releases - ‘u’ & ‘me’. His debut album is due next year.
6. The Australian public loved i hate u, i love u so much that they took it all the way to Number 1 back in April.
