Rudimental collaborator John Newman set to topple Icona Pop’s I Love It from the top of the Official Singles Chart.
They managed to end Robin Thicke’s month-long domination of Number 1 with Blurred Lines, but Icona Pop’s run at the top of the Official Singles Chart looks likely to be cut short this weekend.
According to the Official Chart Company’s latest sales data, John Newman’s debut solo single Love Me Again is on course to debut at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart this Sunday, outselling electro twosome Icona Pop by almost two to one at this midway stage.
Love Me Again has sold over 70,000 copies up to midnight last night, and is likely to break the 100,000 mark by the time the Official Singles Chart is revealed on Sunday, which would make this the 12th week running in which the Number 1 single has sold 100,000 copies in a week. The track would be John Newman’s first Number 1 as a solo artist, having previously reached the top spot with electronic quartet Rudimental on Feel the Love in June 2012.
Tune into the Official Chart Show with Jameela Jamil on BBC Radio 1 from 4pm on Sunday, or log on to www.officialcharts.com from 7pm to find out if John Newman can hang on to his lead over Icona Pop.
Icona Pop’s I Love It slip one place to Number 2 on today’s Official Singles Chart Update, clocking up almost 40,000 sales so far this week.
Former Number 1 star Robin Thicke falls to Number 3 with Blurred Lines. Will.I.Am’s Bang Bang holds fast at Number 4 for another week on today’s Update. Britain’s Got Talent finalist Gabz completes the Official Chart Update Top 5 with her debut single Lighters (The One).
New Entries and High Climbers
The Saturdays look set for their 13th Top 10 hit this weekend with Gentleman debuting at Number 8, while DJ and remixer Russ Chimes is on course for his first Top 40 hit in his own right with Turn Me Out, new at 33.
The Glastonbury effect has seen big climbs for Mumford & Sons, jumping 59 places to Number 27 with I Will Wait, and Jake Bugg, leaping 18 places to Number 38 with Broken – the track’s first time in the Top 40.
Finally, Spark Productions’ cover of Avicii and Aloe Blacc’s collaboration Wake Me Up is at Number 39. The original track is currently slated for release on 18 August.
