Jessie J scores her second Official Number 1 single with Domino
Last year’s BRIT Awards Critics Choice winner Jessie J this week handed over the baton to Scottish singer/songwriter Emeli Sande after what has been an incredible breakthrough year for the 23 year old, topped off by her new single ‘Domino’ soaring straight to the summit of the Official Singles Chart nine weeks before its release date.
‘Domino’, taken from double-platinum debut album ‘Who You Are’, has today toppled last week’s chart topper Flo Rida’s ‘Good Feeling’ (2) by 11,000 copies. The track was written and co-produced by Dr Luke who also worked with Jessie on Number 1 single ‘Price Tag’. ‘Price Tag’ spent two weeks in the top spot and went on to become the fourth biggest selling single of 2011, as revealed last week by the Official Charts Company. ‘Who You Are’ has spawned four Top 10 hits to date, today ‘Domino’ now takes this tally up to five.
Jessie J today becomes the fourth recipient of the all-new Official Singles Chart Number 1 Award, launched to mark the start of 2012 – the 60th anniversary of the UK’s Official Singles Chart, and to recognise every new track that makes it to Number 1.
Theofficialcharts.com caught up with Jessie on the red carpet earlier this week when she was leading the Official Singles race to let her try it on for size and ask the question, if she got to Number 1 this weekend, how was she going to celebrate?
“I want to say a massive thank you to all my fans, my Heartbeats, for buying Domino nine weeks before release. It’s insane! I’m going to go and jump in a pool, I don’t know where the pool is, but I’m going to find one!”

Rizzle Kicks’ 'Mama Do The Hump’ makes yet another climb on today’s chart from 5 to 3, its highest position to date after a 19% sales increase week on week. Spending its seventh week on the chart, Mama Do The Hump is also the highest charting track off debut Top 10 album Stereo Typical, which has so far delivered three UK Top 10 singles. Ex-Brit School students Rizzle Kicks rose to public consciousness after featuring as guests on Olly Murs’ Number 1 hit single 'Heart Skips A Beat' in 2011.
‘Titanium’by David Guetta FT Sia, taken from Guetta’s fifth studio album ‘Nothing But The Beat’, has entered today’s Top 10 after climbing 53 places to Number 8.
Bromley-born singer Pixie Lott is today’s highest climber in the Official Singles Chart Top 40 with ‘Kiss The Stars’, taken from second studio album ‘Young Foolish Happy’, climbing 67 places to land at Number 14. Australian-Belgian singer Gotye, signed recently by Universal’s Island Records, also takes a leap into the Official Top 40 today, jumping 61 places to Number 36 with single ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ FT Kimbra. The track has previously featured on Gossip Girl and 90210, and Gotye will celebrate the release of forthcoming album ‘Making Mirrors’ in the UK with an intimate sold out show at the beautiful Wilton's Music Hall, London, on February 13.
The only new entry inside today’s Official Singles Chart Update Top 40 is a re-entry of Birdy’s ‘Skinny Love’, as performed to by Hollyoaks actress Jorgie Porter on last weekend’s Dancing On Ice. The song was originally written by Bon Iver, Birdy’s cover peaked at Number 17 last March. ‘Skinny Love’ today glides all the way back in at Number 25.
Michael Kiwanuka, winner of the BBC’s Sound of 2012 list and third place in The Brits with Mastercard Critics Choice Award 2012, makes another climb today eight places to Number 29 with the title track from forthcoming debut ‘Home Again’.
