Jason Mraz on track to bag his first Number 1 album
According to today’s Official Chart Update, Jason Mraz looks set to score his first UK Number 1 this weekend. The US singer / songwriter, who released his fourth studio album, Love Is A Four Letter Word, earlier this week, is on course to topple Adele’s 21 from the top of the Official Albums Chart.
Mraz shot to global fame in 2008 when his single, I’m Yours, went Top 10 in 16 countries including Australia, Germany, New Zealand and the US. The track, which became a mainstay on daytime radio, reached Number 11 in the UK’s Official Singles Chart and has sold an impressive 583,000 copies to date. He has since gone on to star in the Visit California TV ad campaign alongside Golden Girl Betty White and former governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Meanwhile Adele’s 21 looks set to fall one place to Number 2, while Nicki Mianj’s Pink Friday – Roman Reloaded is currently sitting pretty at Number 3. Jessie J’s Who You Are is holding steady at Number 4, and Lana Del Rey’s Born To Die completes this week’s Official Albums Chart Update Top 5.
New Entries and high climbers
San Francisco rockers Train are going full steam ahead to score their highest Official Albums Chart placing to date. The band’s latest release, California 37, is looking set to debut at Number 7 – one place ahead of their 2001 breakthrough album Drops Of Jupiter.
Elsewhere, Spiritualized are on course for their seventh Top 40 album. The band’s latest release, Sweet Heart Sweet Light, is at Number 11 in today’s Official Albums Chart Update. Euro power metallers DragonForce are new in at Number 24 with The Power Within, while Liverpool doomsters Anathema are at Number 34 with Weather Systems. Canadian punks Cancer Bats complete this week’s Official Update new entries with Dead Set On Living new in at Number 37.
Much like the Official Singles Chart Update, BBC reality TV show The Voice continues to impact the charts. Coach Jessie J’s Who You Are is holding steady in the Top 5, while Danny O'Donoghue’s band, The Script, are up 16 places to Number 16 with their eponymous 2008 debut album. Thanks to a couple of show-stopping performances of his track Ordinary People on this past weekend’s show, John Legend’s 2004 album Get Lifted looks set to re-enter the Official Albums Chart at Number 18.
