Jake Bugg, Nottingham’s much-hyped singer-songwriter has denied superstar Leona Lewis her third consecutive Number 1 album by shooting straight to the top on the Official Albums Chart.

18 year old Bugg has seen affectionate endorsements from the likes of Chris Martin, Lily Allen and Noel Gallagher, the latter having roped in Bugg for an extensive US tour along with Snow Patrol.

The youngster, whose single Two Fingers sees him bidding a not so fond farewell to yesterday (surely the finest single ever to have referenced Clifton), will busy himself with touring duties well into the new year, and is sure to be a hot ticket across the country following the success of his self-titled debut album.

Leona is further pipped by Mumford & Sons, whose sophomore release Babel finishes the week at Number 2, just ahead of Leona’s third album Glassheart at Number 3 on the Official Albums Chart.

Speaking to OfficialCharts.com, Leona said: “Glassheart is an album I’ve poured my heart and soul into. It’s raw, emotional and progressive. I’m so proud of this record”.

English folk band Bellowhead finish the week at Number 16 with Broadside while Diana Krall’s burlesque-flirting Glad Rag Doll charts at Number 21. Donald Fagen is at Number 23 with Sunken Condos.

The album is produced by Manic Street Preachers and The Cure producer Mike Hedges, and in addition to making an impact on the Official Albums Chart, he tops the Official Classical Albums Chart too.
