David Bowie
It’s 10 years since the one-time Thin White Duke first played the Isle Of Wight Festival in a year that saw fellow veteran rockers The Who play, plus the Libertines drop out of the line-up. Stepping on stage following a 2-1 defeat of England in a Euro 2004 match was going to be a tough task, but Bowie’s set was more than up to the job of rousing the crowd, taking in an array of hits including Rebel Rebel, Heroes, Ashes To Ashes – all of which make an appearance in his Top 10 countdown.
Bowie’s 1973 Number 3 hit Life On Mars takes the top spot on David’s All Time Official Digital Top 10.
Heroes comes second, despite only reaching Number 24 on original release in 1977. The song, which closed Bowie’s set – well, until the encore at least – in 2004, was heavily used throughout the 2012 Olympic Games in London as the official anthem for Team GB.
More Bowie chart facts: His first hit Space Oddity reached Number 5 in 1969, before becoming his first Number 1 when reissued in 1975. Other Number 1s: Ashes To Ashes (1980), Under Pressure with Queen (1981) Let’s Dance (1983) Dancing In The Street with Mick Jagger (1985). David achieved his first Top 20 hit in 20 years since 1993’s Jump They Say with 2013’s Where Are We Now, which peaked at Number 6.

The Who
Legendary rockers The Who first headlined the Isle Of Wight Festival way back in 1969, before returning the following year at the last festival for 32 years! They also triumphantly returned to the revived festival in 2004, the same year as David Bowie.
The Who’s Top 4 Official Most Downloaded Tracks were all part of the band’s 2004 setlist, with Baba O’Riley taking the very top spot. That year’s opener I Can’t Explain also makes an appearance at Number 8, as does another track performed that year, Behind Blue Eyes (6)
More The Who chart facts: The first hit I Can’t Explain reached Number 8 in 1965. Surpisingly, perhaps, the band have had no Number 1 singles! Their highest peaks are 1965’s My Generation and 1966’s I’m A Boy (2)
They have scored one chart-topper on the Official Albums Chart, however – 1971’s Who’s Next takes the honour.

Rolling Stones
Despite having their first hit in 1963, it would be 44 years before the Rolling Stones would storm the Isle Of Wight Festival stage in 2007, their first festival appearance in over 30 years. Everybody wanted a piece of the Stones that year – the band were joined on stage by Paolo Nutini and Amy Winehouse to help them out with a couple of songs.
The band’s most downloaded track is Paint It Black which, while it wasn’t part of their set at 2007’s festival, was the band’s sixth Number 1 in 1966. Up in second is Gimme Shelter, while third place goes to Sympathy For The Devil, which at 2007’s festival was followed by Brown Sugar (5) and Jumpin’ Jack Flash (8) to close the set.
More Stones chart facts: The Stones had a run of five consecutive Number 1s: It’s All Over Now (1964), Little Red Rooster (1964), The Last Time (1965), (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction (1965) and Get Off My Cloud (1965). Their remaining three Number 1 singles are Paint It Black (1966), Jumpin’ Jack Flash (1968) and Honky Tonk Women (1969)

Coldplay
Chris Martin and his band of merry men first took centre-stage at the Isle Of Wight Festival in 2006, alongside the Prodigy and Dave Grohl’s band Foo Fighters. Thanks to Glastonbury taking a break that year, Isle Of Wight was the one to be seen at.
Coming top of the heap on their list of Official Most Downloaded Tracks is 2011’s Number 1 Paradise, which was barely a twinkle in the band’s eye when they played they headlined the Sunday at 2006's festival. Runner-up track Viva La Vida was another hit yet to happen for the band. Up in third, however, is 2006’s encore-closer Fix You, Chris Martin’s emotional tribute to his wife Gwyneth Paltrow, which got the full singalong treatment from the crowd at Seaclose Park.
Yellow, the band’s first Top 10, was also a big crowd pleaser – it’s their fourth most downloaded. Other setlist highlights include The Scientist (6) and Clocks (7).
