Imelda May has announced her first spoken word EP of poetry.

Released on June 12 through Decca Records, Slip of the Tongue is a nine track collection, lead by the first single Home, out today (May 13). Another poem will be released each week until the EP's full rollout next month.

Home - which features Imelda's distinct speaking voice accompanied by string instrumentation - originally began as a poem Imelda wrote for her friend's wedding: "It made me sit and really think about Love and what it is in all its forms and to look at it purely from loves own point of view," the Dubliner said in a statement. "I surmised what it might tell us if we simply took the time to listen and realised, for me, true love is where I can be my true self, it feels like home."

Other topics Imelda addresses on Slip of the Tongue include obsession, heartbreak, and COVID-19 isolation. Imelda said that the project came about as "often words don’t feel like they need anything more than to be spoken aloud or read alone. They just feel good as they are."

Slip of the Tongue is Imelda May's first project since her fifth studio album Life Love Flesh Blood, which peaked at Number 2 on the Official Irish Albums Chart in 2017.
