Haim are hoping to overtake Justin Timberlake in the Official Albums Chart and One Republic are closing in fast on The Vamps on the Official Singles Chart.
Chart battles don’t get much closer than this! Newcomers Haim are snapping at Justin Timberlake’s heels in the race to Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart.
On Wednesday’s Official Chart Update, the LA sisters’ debut album Days Are Gone was 700 copies behind JT’s The 20/20 Experience 2 of 2. But it ain’t over until it’s over and Haim are pulling out all the stops to take that crown – narrowing the gap to just 28 copies this morning, according to Official Charts Company data.
Part 1 of Justin’s The 20/20 Experience album spent three weeks at Number 1 back in March of this year, and it is one of the Top 20 biggest selling albums of 2013 so far. If Part 2 were to make it to the top, it would be Justin’s fourth consecutive Number 1 album. Can chart upstarts Este, Danielle and Alana Haim upset the applecart? They're certainly doing their best!
Over on the Official Singles Chart, there’s another tense race in full swing. OneRepublic’s Counting Stars is zooming up fast on The Vamps’ Can We Dance. While the gap was at 13,000 copies on Wednesday’s Official Chart Update, OneRepublic are now just 6,000 copies behind the newcomers.
If they manage to race ahead, it will be OneRepublic’s first Number 1 – their biggest previous hit was 2007’s Apologize with Timbaland. Lead singer Ryan Tedder has hit the top spot before, as writer of Leona Lewis’s smash Bleeding Love and Ellie Goulding’s massive Number 1 from earlier in the year, Burn. Can Ryan bag a Number 1 all of his very own? Not if The Vamps have their way!
Will the novices outshine the old hands? It’s fresh meat vs prime vintage and the battle is ON.
Who’ll be victorious? There’s only one place to find out. The Official Singles Chart Top 100 and the Official Albums Chart Top 100 will be posted in full on OfficialCharts.com on Sunday at 7pm.
