It’s all change since Wednesday’s Official Albums Chart Update, as Haim overtake Justin Timberlake to debut at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart with Days Are Gone.
In a David and Goliath-esque battle, Californian trio Haim, who were training JT by 700 copies midweek, finish the week 2,100 copies head of the Take Back The Night star, denying him his fourth consecutive UK Number 1 album in the process. The second part of Justin’s 20/20 Experience album series, The 20/20 Experience - 2 of 2, enters at Number 2 today. The original album (which is at Number 33 today) spent three weeks at Number 1 back in March.
Haim – who are made up of sisters Este, Danielle and Alana Haim – shot to fame back in January after winning the BBC’s Sound Of 2013 poll. Days Are Gone is their debut album, and features their three Official Singles Chart Top 40 hits Don’t Save Me, Falling and The Wire.
This week’s Official Albums Chart Top 5 is completed by Kings Of Leon’s Mechanical Bull, which is down two places to Number 3, Arctic Monkeys’ AM, static at Number 4, and Drake’s Nothing Was The Same, down three to Number 5.
New Entries and High Climbers
In addition to Haim’s Day’s Are Gone (Number 1) and Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience – 2 Of 2, there are eight other new entries on this week’s Official Albums Chart.
Alter Bridge score their highest charting UK album to date with Fortress, which is new in today at Number 6. The American rockers’ previous UK chart best was Number 9 in October 2010 with Fortress’ predecessor, AB III.
Meanwhile, Dizzee Rascal clocks up his fourth Top 10 album in a row today with The Fifth (Number 10). The Fifth features Dizzee’s recent Top 40 singles Bassline Junkie, Goin’ Crazy FT Robbie Williams and his latest smash, Something Really Bad FT Will.I.Am. Producer Nick Douwma, AKA Sub Focus, debuts one place behind Dizzee with his second album, Torus (11), and The 20/20 Experience – The Complete Experience, which collects together both parts of Justin Timberlake’s latest album series, is new in at Number 27 today.
This week’s new entries are completed by Moby’s Innocents (Number 35), Metallica’s Through The Never OST (36), Status Quo’s The Frantic Four Reunion 2013 (37) and Kids In Glass Houses’ Peace (4).
