Gracie Abrams celebrates career milestone with first-ever Number 1 The Secret Of Us

Gracie Abrams secures her first-ever Official UK Number 1 album with The Secret Of Us. 

The Californian singer-songwriter reaches the summit of the Official Albums Chart with her second studio collection, following her Top 5 debut Good Riddance, which peaked at Number 3 in 2023. 

Last weekend, Gracie made a surprise appearance at Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour at London’s Wembley Stadium, with the pair performing us., their duet from the LP. 

Celebrating her chart-topping success, Gracie Abrams tells Official Charts: 

“Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for somehow making my album The Secret Of Us Number 1 in the UK. 

“I can’t wrap my head around that. This is the first time that anything I’ve ever done, ever, anywhere has gone Number 1. Thank you for believing in the album, thank you for listening to it and thank you for letting it into your lives. 

“This means so much to me, and to the people I’m lucky enough to have made these songs with. I can’t wait until we’re all in the same place, to sing these songs together at a show and to dance. I’ll be crying! I love you, thank you so much.”

The Secret Of Us also tops this week’s Official Record Store Chart, the most popular album in UK independent record shops, and the Official Vinyl Albums Chart, the best-selling record of the week on vinyl. 

Elsewhere, after spending seven non-consecutive weeks at the top to secure her a personal best, Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department is down one (2). It’s the first of six Taylor records dominating this week’s chart, thanks to a boost from The Eras Tour UK dates. We also see Lover (7), 1989 (Taylor’s Version) (9), Midnights (12), reputation (15), folklore (16) and Red (Taylor’s Version) (37) place inside the Top 40. 

Chappell Roan’s star continues to rise as The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess reaches new highs this week. The Missouri-born singer songwriter’s 2023 debut jumps three to earn her a career-best (6). 

Wirrall-formed alt-rock outfit The Mysterines net their second Top 40 record with Afraid Of Tomorrows (11). The group, comprising Lia Metcalf, George Favager, Callum Thompson and Paul Crilly, last saw success with 2022 debut Reeling (9). 

Speaking to Official Charts, The Mysterines say: 

“Thanks for continuing to support us and for investing in our band. We hope you love this album as much as we do, see you all on tour!”

Foo Fighters’ hits collection The Essential is on the ascent once again, up six, as the group take their Everything Or Nothing At All Tour to stadiums across the UK (13). 

In anticipation of her headline Glastonbury Pyramid Stage performance this weekend, Dua Lipa’s former chart-topper Radical Optimism is up five (27). Meanwhile, Benson Boone’s debut Fireworks & Rollerblades surges following his support slot at Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour in London, up eight (28). 

As they bring The Saviors Tour to the UK, Green Day’s 2017 compilation Greatest Hits: God’s Favorite Band vaults 31 back into the Top 40 for the first time in seven years (29). 

Avril Lavigne’s career-spanning Greatest Hits earns the Canadian pop-punk princess an eighth Top 40 record this week (33), Avril is set to play Glastonbury this weekend. 

Following the release of a 10th anniversary edition, Ed Sheeran’s second studio album X (Multiply) springs an impressive 97 spots back into the Top 40 (34). The record debuted at Number 1 on its release in 2014, and has since spent 524 weeks and counting on the Official Albums Chart.
