Gotye takes on David Guetta in Number 1 race
Gotye FT Kimbra’s Somebody That I Used To Know, continues its ascent up the chart. Currently sat at Number 2 on today’s Official Chart Update, the quirky ode to lost love is only 5,000 copies behind David Guetta and Sia's Titanium.
Gotye FT Kimbra’s Somebody That I Used To Know, the track that has climbed and climbed throughout the Official Singles Chart in 2012, this week continues its unrelenting ascent up the chart with its sights firmly set high. Currently sat at Number 2 on today’s Official Chart Update, the quirky ode to lost love by Australian-Belgian singer/songwriter Gotye, is on course to bag its highest placing ever in its sixth week on the chart.
Somebody That I Used To Know has also clocked up an astonishing 64 million YouTube views to date. With Gotye only 5,000 copies behind current chart-topper David Guetta FT Sia’s Titanium (1), and a new entry from Will.I.Am (3) following closely on both their heels, the remainder of the week is all to play for at the top.
Will.I.Am FT Mick Jagger and Jennifer Lopez’s new entry T.H.E (The Hardest Ever) is released as the first official lead single from the former Black Eyed Peas main man’s upcoming fourth studio album, #willpower. T.H.E will be the 11th Top 40 solo single that Will.I.Am has featured on as either the lead or featured artist, and is the only new entry in today’s Official Singles Chart Update Top 40.
Queen of Pop Madonna enters the singles race at Number 64 with new track Give Me All Your Luvin’ FT Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. The track makes its debut appearance today in the Official Chart Update on the back of one day’s sales as an official single after having previously been offered as a pre-order incentive for her forthcoming album, MDNA. All eyes will be on the Superbowl starlet to see whether Give Me Your Luvin' can power through the ranks of the Official Chart ahead of Sunday’s final whistle.
Today’s highest climber comes courtesy of X Factor 2010 runner-up Rebecca Ferguson whose first single Nothing’s Real But Love re-enters the Top 40, no doubt buoyed by its appearance on Nescafe’s current TV ad campaign. David Guetta’s Turn Me On FT Nicki Minaj also bounces 20 places skyward to land at Number 13, while Birdy’s cover of Skinny Love climbs nine places to 15 after appearing in EastEnders this past Monday.
