Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire defeats Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire in tight race for Number 1 film

Two ‘empires’ battled it out on this week’s Official Film Chart, but only one could come out on top.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire emerges triumphant in a photo-finish against Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, with only 680 sales separating the two titles on this week’s chart.

Godzilla x Kong storms up 11 places this week following its release on physical formats, earning a third non-consecutive week at Number 1, four weeks after its last placement at the top. Despite finishing at Number 2 this week, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire – also enjoying a sales boost thanks to its release on physical – is the biggest release of the week across DVD, Blu-ray and 4K UHD.

Meanwhile, Dune: Part Two is finally toppled from Number 1 – but we can’t discount it from future chart-topping success as it holds strong in the Top 3 for another week. Kung Fu Panda 4 earns a second consecutive week at Number 4, while Wicked Little Letters drops three to Number 5.

Amy Winehouse biopic Back To Black jumps five places (6) to return to the Top 10 this week, while rom-com Anyone But You (7) rockets 25. Rounding out the week’s Top 10 is Ryan Gosling action/comedy The Fall Guy, down three (8), The Equalizer 3 (9), and Madame Web, dropping four (10).
