Gigi Perez celebrates breakthrough UK Number 1 single Sailor Song: “Oh my God, this is amazing!”
Plus, Lady Gaga scores this week's highest new entry and Addison Rae enters the Top 10 for the first time.
Congratulations to Gigi Perez, who claims her first-ever UK Number 1 single today with viral breakthrough hit Sailor Song.
Having taken social media by storm, the lovelorn ballad leaps to the top spot after three weeks inside the Top 10. Perez’s first-ever entry on the Official Singles Chart, it sees the New Jersey native enter the pantheon of pop elites with her unapologetically-sapphic love story.
Sailor Song ends Sabrina Carpenter’s dominant streak at the top of the Official Singles Chart (21 weeks in total), and is the most-streamed song of the week in the UK (5 million streams).
Speaking exclusively to Official Charts, Gigi Perez says:
“What the hell? Oh my God, this is amazing!
“There’s such a big hole in the conversations that we’re having in mainstream music. There’s an entire group of people - the queer community - who need representation.
“Knowing that Sailor Song is a vessel for that, it’s amazing. Thank you!”
ROSÉ and Bruno Mars rise to Number 2 this week with the earworm that is APT. Last week, ROSÉ became the first K-pop female soloist achieve a UK Top 5 single, and breaks her own record this week, reaching the highest position of any female K-pop solo artist in UK chart history.
Gracie Abrams’s brilliant breakout year continues, with the US sensation netting two simultaneous Top 5 singles today; That’s So True jumps 16 places (3) becoming Gracie’s second Top 10 hit, as I Love You, I’m Sorry holds steady (4).
Lady Gaga is back with some healing powers! Dramatic new industrial-pop banger Disease is this week’s highest new entry in the Official Singles Chart, bowing at Number 7. It’s the 16th career Top 10 hit for Gaga, and her second this year following Die With A Smile with Bruno Mars.
Huge snaps are also in order for pop princess Addison Rae, who earns her first ever UK Top 10 single with the sensual Diet Pepsi, up two to Number 10.
Teddy Swims’s long-gestating hit The Door also hits its re-peak of Number 12.
Following his first-ever UK Number 1 album, Tyler, The Creator sees three tracks from Chromakopia impact the Top 40; St. Chroma with Daniel Caesar becomes the rapper’s highest-ever charting single in the UK (15) and is joined by Noid (16) and Darling, I featuring Teezo Touchdown (24) taking his all-time haul of Top 40 singles up to eight.

For anyone who understands ACR (I'm rubbish at Maths) this is the UK's one as it stands as far as i know. Either way there was no way Sabrina was going to break Frankie Laines' 28 weeks at 1 in '53(ask your elder Grans or Grandads of a certain age) and Bryan Adams 33 years and counting record of 16 unbroken weeks at the top. It just felt like the time was right for the industry to say move over a fresh newcomer.

It didn't end Sabrina's reign, ACR did otherwise she'd still be number one. Gracie is doing well, so happy for her. Suprised Lady Gaga is so low.

Not among my favourite #1 hits of the year, but happy for Gigi for her first chart-topper here in the UK! ❤️
Hopefully 'APT' can get there next! Genuinely one of the most fun and addictive songs of the year to date.
