George Ezra returns to Number 1 for a third week with Shotgun
Plus Benny Blanco, Halsey and Khalid propel into the Top 5.
Persistence has paid off for George Ezra, who after four weeks of being stuck behind Drake, has returned to Number 1.
Originally a two-week chart-topper in early July, Shotgun is back at the top of the Official Singles Chart, pushing Drake's In My Feelings down to Number 2.
The most streamed and downloaded song of the week, Shotgun is one of only four songs in the last two years to go back to Number 1, including Ed Sheeran's Shape of You, Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee & Justin Bieber's Despacito, and the song that knocked Shotgun from the top, Baddiel, Skinner & The Lightning Seeds’ Three Lions.
Elsewhere in the Top 5, DJ Khaled, Justin Bieber, Chance the Rapper and Quavo hold at Number 3 with No Brainer, and Eastside by Benny Blanco, Halsey and Khalid leaps eight spots to Number 4.
New entries and high climbers
There's one more ascent in this week's Top 10 as Loud Luxury rise two to Number 6 with Body ft. Brando, a new peak.
Jax Jones' Ring Ring ft. Mabel and Rich the Kid hits a new high of 13 this week, one place ahead of Cheat Codes & Little Mix - Only You has recorded its best position to date at 14.
Big jumps are recorded for Dennis Lloyd's Nevermind (19), Martin Garrix & Khalid's Ocean (25), and B Young's 079ME (28), plus Nicki Minaj records two songs in this week's Top 40 from her newly-crowned Top 5 Queen album; Bed ft. Ariana Grande is this week's highest climber, up 15 to Number 23, plus Barbie Dreams bows at 36.

There's another new entry for David Guetta & Anne-Marie; Don't Leave Me Alone becomes David's 37th UK Top 40 single at Number 37.
Finally, ABBA's When I Kissed The Teacher becomes a Top 40 hit for the first time, sung by Lily James, Jessica Keenan Wynn, Alexa Davies and Celia Imrie. Taken from Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, the song is new at Number 40.

'Shotgun' is doing way better in both Ireland and Scotland. It should have never been dethroned in the nationwide charts in the first place. Three measly weeks and that will be it for him.
Jamie Crampton
Gee.. what a load of trash apart from about 3 tracks. Shows what happens when you include things people watch/listen to for free, rather than paying for. Not that the sales chart is much better.

There is still problems with the Charts pages Top 100, and other chart sources on the official chart pages apart form the news, i love looking at the sales and physicals i think there are personally the best! and nice to always see other chart feeds and Scotland got a charts i seen that for a while now years in fact, i hope one day sees wales and england only! but the charts on here is a like billboards from the states lot of charts to see, but with the single chart today for UK is disappointing to see firstly sales was important back then only, it now mainly bits of sales and fake streaming rules today, 1990s and early 2000's UK Singles was so cool and so so much better it promo new tracks better and they used to be lots like dozens of new entries in the Top 40 of new tracks that come out only from that 7 days/week, now it just songs staying the same, all the time and new tracks are today so so disadvantage and missed, even though there are like over 50 new song released in UK each week. only a few if we lucky get to the charts Top 100, and some are out that week start climbing weeks to months later but all this problem is all about UK Radio fault not playing new song quick enough

My thoughts & observations on the UK charts as always…
- ‘Shotgun’ by George Ezra has rebounded to #1 on the singles chart, where it spends a third non-consecutive week at the top. It is only the fourth song in the past two years to make a return to #1, after: ‘Shape Of You’, ‘Despacito’ & ‘Three Lions’.
- ‘One Kiss’ by Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa holds at #1 on the airplay chart once again. It is now the fifth most played song on British radio in 2018, behind: ‘These Days’, ‘For You’, ‘Feel It Still’ & ‘Never Be The Same’ respectively.
- The official video to ‘In My Feelings’ debuts at #1 on the national YouTube chart with 3.05 million plays (the latest chart I could get info for was the 3-9 August one).
- NICKI MINAJ – BARBIE DREAMS (#36)
I’m really not sure what to think of this one currently. Nicki pays homage to ‘Dreams’ by the late Notorious B.I.G., but while the original involved Biggie rapping about his attraction to popular female R&B artists, Nicki decides to roast prominent male artists and athletes, but it’s all in good fun as most of them are her collaborators or friends. The guitar plucking in the production fir better than expected & her delivery is fine considering she freestyled most of this in one take. So far, not bad, I’d say a 6/10.
- DAVID GUETTA FT ANNE-MARIE – DON’T LEAVE ME ALONE (#37)
This might not be Song Of The Summer material, but it’s a really solid collaboration regardless! Anne-Marie shines the most on this song, where she sings passionately about wanting a lover to stay with her through the good or bad times, even if I think she’s wailing a little bit too much in the hook. The snappy percussion & simmering synths in the verses stand out a fair bit, even if the drop lets it out slightly by being too punctuated by piano stabs & hand claps, it’s not really all that danceable. That said, it’s enthusiastic enough for me to like this a fair bit, so I’m going with a strong 7/10.
- LILY JAMES, JESSICA KEENAN WYNN, ALEXA DAVIES & CELIA IMRIE (#40)
Considering this is an ABBA cover, I knew it was going to end up liking it! The thing is, the delivery is so light-hearted, even though the content about a female student who has a crush on her teacher eventually can’t restrain herself & kisses him, could be viewed as a fairly raunchy for a ‘Mamma Mia’ makeover. However, the harmonies are awesome & the production is so bouncy that this is a lot of fun regardless & it’s becoming catchier with every listen. For me, again, strong 7/10.
- On the albums chart, ‘Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again’ is #1 for a fourth consecutive week. It ties ‘Les Misérables’ for the second longest reigning run atop the albums chart by a Motion Picture Cast Recording in recent chart history. It’s got a while to go before it catches the current record holder, ‘The Greatest Showman’, on 21 weeks!
- The rest of the Top 5 this week is: ‘The Greatest Showman’ soundtrack (stationary at #2), ‘Scorpion’ by Drake (4-3), ‘Staying At Tamara’s’ (5-4) & ‘Queen’ by Nicki Minaj (debuts at #5).
- Looking ahead to next week, as well as some Aretha Franklin classics returning, these songs could enter the Top 40 for the first time: ‘Promises’ by Calvin Harris & Sam Smith, ‘Breathin’ by Ariana Grande, ‘TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME’ by The 1975, ‘Lost Without You’ by Freya Ridings, ‘In My Mind’ by Dynoro & Gigi D’Agostino, ‘All I Am’ by Jess Glynne, ‘Faith’s Song’ by Amy Wadge & maybe even more.
- Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you all have a good weekend. :)

You don't think the new Janet Jackson track will crack TOP 40. I wasn't sure but after listening to it I kind a think it's going to be TOP 40 next week.
Piran
I don't think so, it seems to have done hardly anything in streaming & is very weak on sales.

I just checked and peaked #47 on the official single sales chart.

I don't understand why that 10 week or whatever rule doesn't apply to that 'Shotgun' trash? Every other song takes a big tumble after a certain number of weeks, but this one is allowed to climb back to #1 on its 19th or whatever week??? This chart is so bogus it has become a joke.

That's because it hasn't decreased. After 9 weeks on the chart, all songs can be eligible for ACR (which halves their streaming sales), but will only be put on it if they have been decreasing in overall sales for 3 weeks before. It's gotten incredibly complicated, I agree!

John Smith
ACR is ridiculous. Surely the chart is a list of BEST selling/streamed/downloaded singles. Why penalise a song just because it's been more popular than others for a longer time. Too many rules for what should be simple.
It's a shame Disturbed's version of 'sound of silence' never charted on the official charts, what an amazing track; have a listen ...
candog75
It did chart - peaking at No. 29 and spent 10 weeks on the chart
Piran
I didn't expect 'Shotgun' would go back to #1, but I like that it did! :)
What I love even more is seeing 'Eastside' take that massive jump into the Top 5.
Rob Parkinson
Totally agree with you on both points there Piran, 2 great tracks!
Piran
Thanks! Yeah, both are continuing to grow on me.
I'd really like to see 'Eastside' in with a chance at #1 eventually! :)
Rob Parkinson
It certainly ticks all the boxes, could be strong competition next week from Calvin and Sam Smith though, although I'm still much preferring east side
