Gary Barlow pips Amy MacDonald and Usher to Number 1 in albums chart r
A closely fought albums battle this week sees Gary Barlow & The Commonwealth Band claiming a Number 1 victory for the third week running with the Official Diamond Jubilee album, Sing.
The Take That star, who has become an OBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list this week, saw off new competition this week from Scottish singer/songwriter Amy MacDonald and her new album Life In A Beatiful Light (2), and Usher’s Looking 4 Myself (3), featuring Top 5 singles Climax and Scream. Only a little over 1000 copies separated all three artists.
Today’s Official Albums Chart Top 5 is completed by Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto (4) and Paloma Faith’s Fall To Grace (5).
New entries
Following Amy MacDonald (2) and Usher (3), there are eight other new entries in today’s Official Albums Chart.
New Fleetwood Mac collection 25 years – The Chain is at Number 9, coming a little over a week after it was confirmed that former band member Bob Welch had tragically been found dead at his home in Nashville, age 66.
Indie rockers Maximo Park are new in at Number 13 with their fourth album, National Health, while British electro outfit Hot Chip debut at Number 14 with In Our Heads.
Kings of Baggy The Stone Roses are gearing up for their hotly anticipated reunion shows at Manchester’s Heaton Park at the end of the month – the three night stint was reported to have become the fastest selling rock gigs in UK history when tickets went on sale back in October. Stone Roses (The Very Best Of) enters today at Number 21, followed by Johnny Cash’s The Classics at 22.
Neil Young (Official Release Series Discs 1-4) is this week’s Number 30, while DJ and producer Orlando Higginbottom,AKA Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, is at 35 with his debut album, Trouble.
The highly acclaimed 29 year old classical guitarist Milos Karadaglic completes today’s Top 40 new entries with new album Latino (38). Look out for where he charts in this week’s Official Classical Albums Chart later.
