It has been a remarkable few weeks for the South Korean singer: he’s amassed over 411 million views on YouTube, hit Number 1 in 11 different countries (including our very own Official Singles Chart), and now Psy can add an Official Streaming Chart Number 1 to his ever-growing list of accolades.
The Official Streaming Chart is compiled by the Official Charts Company on behalf of the British music industry, and has been running since May. It is the first chart which ranks audio streams from both ad-funded and subscription streaming services in the UK, which reflects the increasing interest in the new generation of music services such as Spotify, Deezer, Napster and We7.
Last week’s chart topper, The Script FT Will.I.Am’s Hall Of Fame is down one place to Number 2, while Mumford And Sons’ I Will Wait is up one to Number 3. Taylor Swift’s We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together is at Number 4, while Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen’s Good Time completes this week’s Top 5, holding steady at Number 5.
New Entries And Highest Climbers
There are eight new entries on this week’s Official Streaming Chart, six of which are taken from Muse’s latest album, The 2nd Law, which reached Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart on Sunday. Madness debuts at Number 28, Follow Me is at Number 60, Supremacy is at 64, Panic Station is at 68, Big Freeze is at 89, and Prelude is at Number 98.
This week’s new entries are completed by Ellie Goulding’s Anything Could Happen, which enters the Official Streaming Chart at Number 37, and One Direction’s Live While We’re Young, which debuts at Number 41.
Cambridge alternative trio Alt-J score this week’s highest climber with Something Good up 23 to Number 58. Conor Maynard’s Turn Around FT Ne-Yo and Otto Knows’ Million Voices are both up 16 places to Number 29 and Number 51, respectively.
