Christmas has come early for Gabrielle Aplin, as The Power Of Love looks set to top of the Official Singles Chart on Sunday.
According to today’s Official Singles Chart Update, Gabrielle Aplin is leading the race to Number 1 with her cover of Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s 1984 hit, The Power Of Love.
The track, which is featured in this year's heartwarming John Lewis Christmas TV advert, and had previously peaked at Number 5, has been widely tipped to be a contender for the Official Christmas Number 1. However, Christmas seems to have come early for the 20 year old singer/songwriter from Wiltshire, as The Power Of Love climbs five places from Number 6 to Number 1 on today’s Official Singles Chart Update. It is currently outselling its closest competitor, Olly Murs FT Flo Rida’s Troublemaker (Number 2) by over 3,500 copies at this midway stage.
The Top 5 is completed by Bruno Mars’ Locked Out Of Heaven (Number 3), Labrinth’s Beneath Your Beautiful FT Emeli Sande (4) and One Direction’s Little Things (5).
New Entries And High Climbers
Tulisa claims this week’s highest new entry with Sight Of You, which looks set to enter at Number 12 on Sunday. It’s the third single to be lifted from her debut solo album, The Female Boss, and her third Top 20 solo hit.
Miami rapper Pitbull is on course for his ninth Top 40 hit as a lead artist, and 18th overall, on Sunday with Don’t Stop The Party FT TJR (Number 15), while London singer/songwriter Angel look set to score his second Top 40 hit with Time After Time (34).
Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s original version of The Power Of Love climbs 26 places to re-enter the Top 40 at Number 33, and One Direction’s current US single, Kiss You, climbs 27 places to Number 35.
Berkshire teaching assistant Jimmy Higham & Jon Walmsley’s cover of Stevie Wonder’s Isn’t She Lovely could well make its Official Top 40 debut on Sunday. Recorded in 2009, Jon Walmsley decided to release the track as a tribute to his friend, Jimmy, who tragically lost his battle with cancer last Christmas. Isn’t She Lovely debuted at Number 41 last Sunday, but according to the latest Official Charts Company reports, the track has since climbed five places to Number 36.
And finally, Wham!’s 1984 smash, Last Christmas, looks set to re-enter the Official Singles Chart on Sunday. The track, which is the biggest selling single to have never reached Number 1, is at Number 40 on today’s Update.
