Foxes discusses wanting to take third album The Kick "to a strange place" on The Record Club
Foxes was the latest guest on The Record Club with Bowers & Wilkins.
As this week's guest on The Record Club with Bowers & Wilkins, Foxes sat down with DJ and presenter Jess Iszatt to discuss the stories behind her recently-released third album, The Kick.
The Kick is Foxes first full-length effort in six years - since sophomore album All I Need in 2016. Now an independent artist signed through PIAS, The Kick is heavily indebted to synth-pop records, and at points feels like a sonic cousin to Carly Rae Jepsen's 2015 opus Emotion.
But according to Foxes, she wanted to kick (literally) the habit of making pristine and "clean" pop.
"A lot of pop music at the moment is clean and quite perfect," Foxes said. "I like making stuff that's a bit rough around the edges."
On the sonic trajectory of the album, she added: "If I can kind take it to a strange place, and it still be pop...that's my safe space."
