The single seems to be the first release from an upcoming expansion of Dance Fever, which hit Number 1 last year.

Florence & The Machine have teased the release of a brand new song, taken from a new expansion of their UK Number 1 album, Dance Fever.

The fifth album from the English alt-pop band entered at the top of the Official Albums Chart in May last year, becoming Florence Welsh et.al's fourth chart-topping LP.

They previously reached the summit with Lungs (2009), Ceremonials (2011) and How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful (2015) and have one UK Number 1 single, thanks to Calvin Harris' buoyant reworking of Spectrum, while Florence herself scored a solo Number 1 single with another Calvin collab, Sweet Nothing.

Florence herself has been hinting over the last few years that the 'next chapter' of Dance Fever is imminent, and her latest post on social media sees her stomping through a gothic church ground (very apt) as a small snippet of the new song plays.

It certainly sounds like a continuation of the orchestral swooning pop of Dance Fever, backed by haunting drums and backing vocals as Florence laments the state of the country.

New lyrics from the song go as follows: "England is only ever grey or green, the girls glitter striding glorious and coatless in the rain.

"I remember falling through these streets somewhere out of place, if not for the drunkenness, it makes my chest hurt to think of it. Not of regret, but of missing that cheerful oblivion."

So far, so ominous!

No release date has been set for the new single yet, but fans are able to pre-save it right now to unlock the artwork which has been shot by director Autumn de Wilde (Emma), who also helmed all the videos for Dance Fever, including King and Free.

This is not the first new material we've had from Florence this year, either. Last month she dropped a very melodramatic cover of No Doubt's Just A Girl, tied in with the release of the second season of US mystery drama Yellowjackets.
