Florence & The Machine secure a second chart topping week with Spectru
Florence & The Machine have pulled away from Maroon 5 since midweek to secure a second week at the summit of the Official Singles Chart with Spectrum.
It was neck and neck at the point of Wednesday’s Official Chart Update with less than 1,000 copies separating the two, but in the latter half of the week Florence Welch and co ran heads down through to the finishing line, ending the week with a comfortable 7,000 copies lead on Payphone.
Florence & The Machine, with a little help from super producer Calvin Harris on remix duty, scored their long-awaited first ever Number 1 single last Sunday with Spectrum. However, the achievement was overshadowed after the 25 year old singer was sadly forced to pull out of high profile European festival slots at Spain’s Benicassim and Portugal’s Optimus Alive Festival after losing her voice. Following doctor’s orders and taking some time out to mend her vocal chords, Florence is now back on tour over the pond wowing US audiences.
New entries
X Factor 2011 finalist Misha B is this week’s highest new entry.
The 20 year old Manchester singer’s long-awaited debut single Home Run, produced by rising UK producer MNEK, takes Misha B in an unexpected, more adventurous direction than perhaps people would have anticipated with its reggae-infused, drum and bass-influenced beats. Home Run bags Misha B her first solo UK Top 20 today, landing at Number 11.
In a video interview this week, Misha B tells OfficialCharts.com about the transition from X Factor contestant to fully fledged debut solo star “My life has changed dramatically, it’s gone from dreaming to reality. It goes to show that if you just believe in yourself and keep working hard, that your dreams can come true. Taking opportunities that come, like X Factor, it’s great.”
The only other new entry in today’s Top 40 comes courtesy of West London musician Angel. His first release back in March of this year, Go In, Go Hard, featured the vocals of Wretch 32, however it is this week’s follow up single Wonderful (20), that sees him break through into the Official Singles Chart Top 20.
The week’s highest climbers inside the Top 40 are Far East Movement/Cover Drive, whose Turn Up The Love jumps 41 places to Number 28. Meanwhile just outside the Top 40, Kylie Minogue is given a welcome boost this week, as the release of a limited edition physical run of her most recent single Timebomb fires the Aussie pop queen back up 105 places to Number 42. Timebomb previously peaked at 31 upon its original release last month.
