Fall Out Boy go head to head with Mark Ronson in incredibly close albums race
Fall Out Boy are on course to claim their first UK No.1 album on the Official Album Chart.
The US punk-rock band are currently leading the chart with their sixth album American Beauty/American Psycho, with a lead of just over 1,500 copies.The collection, which includes Top 40 hit Centuries, follows 2013’s Number 2 album Save Rock and Roll.
Close behind at Number 2 is a new entry from Mark Ronson; his fourth studio album Uptown Special. The record, which includes the worldwide smash Uptown Funk and two collaborations with Stevie Wonder, will match the peak of his previous two albums (2007’s Version and 2010’s Record Collection) if he holds on to his current position by Sunday.
Meanwhile, British rock band Enter Shikari are on track for their highest-charting album to date this week with The Mindsweep, currently at Number 3, while Ed Sheeran’s X (4) and Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour (5) complete the Top 5.
New entries and high climbers
Further down the chart, Scottish indie-pop band Belle & Sebastian are new at Number 8 with their ninth album Girls in Peacetime Want to Dance, electro group Above & Beyond start at 9 with We Are All We Need, and folk five-piece The Decemberists are set to score their highest-charting album in the UK this week with What A Terrible World, currently at 10.
Marilyn Manson is on course to earn his seventh UK Top 40 album this weekend with The Pale Emperor at Number 11, rock and roll band The Waterboys are new at 12 with Modern Blues, and Dr Dre’s seminal 2001 album re-enters the Top 40 at 15.
Other albums expected to enter the Top 40 this Sunday at Joey Badass’ debut B4.DA.$$ (Number 18), No Cities To Love by punk-rockers Sleater-Kinney (22) and Funeral For A Friend’s seventh album Chapter and Verse (28).
