Exclusive First Listen preview: A new Rita Ora bop? Ask & You Shall Receive!

The jumpy summer tune was co-written by RAYE, and will be debuted this weekend at Mighty Hoopla.

Pop music is all about belief.

And no one is more of a true believer than Rita Ora, who has always known her way around a bop (you don't become the first British female solo artist with 13 UK Top 10 singles for nothing!) and returns this Friday (May 31) with a jubilant new single, Ask & You Shall Receive.

And let's just say...this one has summer written all over it.

"I've got this feeling that's refreshing my life," Rita sings over a bouncy, funk bassline. "And I don't want it to end. I've met this man, I think about him all night...he's more than just a friend."

Co-written by RAYE, Ask & You Shall Receive comes just in time for those days getting hotter and the nights, longer. It's all about that almost rapturous feeling you get in your chest when you meet someone that you know will be in your life for a long time.

With production from German (ZAYN, Justin Bieber), Ask & You Shall Receive chugs along with a house-inspired beat, buoyed by its euphoric chorus, which definitely still carries RAYE's lingering touch and a definite callback to the sonics of one of Rita's greatest ever songs, I Will Never Let You Down.

"And now I see, I ain't gonna leave," the chorus goes, "baby, what do you want from me? Ask and you shall receive!"

As far as Rita's discography goes, this is the most pure pop she's been in some while, and is something of a lap of honour for the superstar, following her more introspective and personal approach to her recent third album You & I, which debuted at Number 6 on the Official Albums Chart, her second Top 10 LP in the UK.

To these ears at least, the best part of the song comes when the beat drops on the bridge and Rita starts borderline rapping, her voice distorted with reverb before we drop into the chorus for one last time.

Very fittingly, Ask & You Shall Receive will also receive its live debut at this weekend's Mighty Hoopla festival in London's Brockwell Park, the perfect incubator for this kind of tune.
