Exclusive First Listen: Jax Jones teams up with Calum Scott for enigmatic new single Whistle
When you think about, a new Jax Jones and Calum Scott single just makes sense.
Jax is, of course, one of the countries premiere maker of bops - with everyone from RAYE (You Don't Know Me), Madison Beer (All Day All Night) and even Demi Lovato (Instruction) joining the party.
And what a party Jax threw last year - his single Where Did You Go featuring regular collaborator MNEK (aka the voice at the start of every Jax Jones song btw!) was a massive success for both acts, peaking at Number 7 on the Official Singles Chart, netting Jax his eighth UK Top 10 hit and just one of many dance tracks that made 2022 the year of the dancefloor on the Official Charts.
As for Calum, his re-emergence as a dancefloor darling was secured when Lost Frequencies' gloomy Where Are You Now became one of the biggest hits of 2022 - peaking at Number 3 on the Official Singles Chart, and ranking overall the eighth best-selling single of last year.
Overall, not bad going. But what can these two titans achieve when they get together? Another smash in the making, we think!

On their enigmatic new single Whistle, Jax and Calum are lost in the rave, wishing for one last night with their significant other under the strobe lights. And they'll do anything to get it.
"If we only got tonight," Calum croons on the chorus, "I wanna spend it by your side. If you want to give love one last try, just put your hand on your heart and whistle...and I'll come back to you."
Of course, this is then followed by the most glorious house drop, all strumming guitars and, of course, an echoed whistle to be stuck inside your head forever. Even better is the song's bridge - where Calum's vocals are chopped up (who doesn't love a chopped-up vocal? We do certainly do!) which leads into the raucous last chorus. Come on, ad libs!
Speaking exclusively to OfficialCharts.com about Whistle, Calum Scott said as soon as he heard the demo of the song, "I said ‘you’ve got to let me record a little vocal on this!’"
As for his hopes for the single, Calum says; "I’m excited but also a little bit scared by what we might achieve with it. He’s obviously just had a massive song with MNEK [2022’s Where Did You Go?], so fingers crossed we’ll strike gold again!"
Fingers crossed, hun.
As it stands, Whistle slots comfortably into Jax's ever-growing collection of electronic bangers - if we would compare it any of his previous releases, we'd say it resembles something of a cousin to the icy Breathe with Ina Wroldsen, while it adds another notch to Calum's dance-pop belt, a signifier that after a few years of trying to find what suits his voice best, he's finally found it. And that's bangers, babe.
Whistle by Jax Jones and Calum Scott is releases February 10 via Polydor. Keep your eyes peeled on OfficialCharts.com for an exclusive interview with Calum, dropping soon.
