Everton FC anthem Spirit Of The Blues claims the UK’s most downloaded track of the week
Everton's 35-year-old song enters the Official Singles Chart for the first time.
Everton FC anthem Spirit Of The Blues enters this week's Official Singles Chart Top 100 for the first time ever, following the team's winning start to the Premier Leage season.
Spirit Of The Blues enters at Number 65 and was the UK's most downloaded song of the week.
The club's anthem, first released in 1985, has seen a surge in popularity this week following last Saturday's 2-1 victory away at Crystal Palace, which marked their third consecutive victory of the Premier League season under Carlo Ancelotti.
After their win, a social media movement saw fans - and even Everton's official Twitter account - dub the 35-year-old song over a range of funny videos.
Spirit of the Blues was released in 1985 after Everton completed a First Division title and European Cup Winners' Cup double during the 1984-85 season.
One of the men who wrote the song, Kenny Parry, told Evertonfc.com: “I was sat at home on Sunday not feeling great, then I got a call from Billy asking if I wanted some good news... I didn’t believe him.
"I am floating now. It is surreal and difficult to take in."
To celebrate the feat the team at Everton have made their own music video for the song, combining clips of players doing silly dances in front of a green screen and the team's recent goals.
🎬 | By popular demand... the 'official' music video to a 35-year-old song that you've suddenly lifted into the charts. #SpiritoftheBlues, indeed!

Amazing to see a football song at the top of the download charts, and thats me being a Liverpool FC fan , congratulations to the blues, for getting the top song, only 65 on the singles! the charts is all about streaming, i would love to see that in the Top 40 singles this week, times has changed for radio 1 charts. it may be the official charts that counts with ratio and streams mainly, but Sales and physicals are still important, as pay each track is more suited for rare special charts than free play on legal company subscriptions

You can call me Al
Top of the league and a number 1, this is too much to handle at my age.
