Evanescence are top of the rocks in the Official Chart Update
Rihanna looks set to hold firm at the top of the Official Singles Chart, while Evanescence nudge into the lead in the Official Albums Chart race, according to today’s (Wednesday, October 12) Official Chart Update.
US-Barbadian pop beauty Rihanna is on course to maintain her reign of the Official Singles Chart this weekend as ‘We Found Love’ stays put for a second week in the top spot. The track, featuring DJ/producer Calvin Harris, romped to the top of the Singles Chart last weekend in just four days of sales, scoring Rihanna her sixth UK Number 1 in five consecutive years, a record unequalled by any other female solo artist.
Always a bridesmaid, never a bride, summer anthem ‘Moves Like Jagger’ by Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera is held off the top spot yet again this week. After spending an impressive eight consecutive weeks in the Top 3, six of those weeks being at Number 2, the track looks set to stick around for a ninth week this Sunday. Sitting at Number 2 behind a total of six different Number 1 hits is a first in Official Charts history.
Christina Perri’s ‘Jar of Hearts’ makes a climb back up the charts in today’s Update, courtesy of Liverpudlian X Factor contestant, Craig Colton, whose cover of the track on last Saturday evening’s show was commended by judge Gary Barlow as the performance of the night.
The Official Update Top 5 is completed by two new entries. This week’s highest new entry comes from Gym Class Heroes Feat. Adam Levine of Maroon 5 fame.
X Factor 2010 winner Matt Cardle enters at Number 5 with ‘Run For Your Life’, the Gary Barlow-penned first single taken from forthcoming debut album, ‘Letters’.
The power of advertising makes its mark on this week’s chart. Charlene Soraia’s cover of The Calling’s ‘Wherever You Will Go’ taken from the Twinings Tea ad soundtrack climbs up from 20 to 11. But it is the farmers of Yeo Valley who have managed to really make a stir with their latest ad campaign that debuted during Saturday evening’s X Factor ad break. The impressive two minute music video from the family-owned dairy brand, a follow up to last year’s debut campaign the Yeo Valley rappers, this time introduced four-piece boy band The Churned. The ad instantly became a social media phenomenon, becoming the highest worldwide trending topic on Twitter within minutes. The track, ‘Forever’ enters today’s Official Charts Update Top 75 at Number 67, with an incredibly close race indeed towards the Top 40 this weekend. All eyes are on the organic-loving singing farmers to break through.
Evanescence make their return to the Official Albums Chart with the release of their self-titled third studio album. A follow up to 2006’s ‘The Open Door’ which peaked at Number 2, Evanescence are on course to score their second Number 1 album this weekend according to today’s Update. The Arkansas rockers are joined by the Brit Award-winners Steps who enter the Albums Chart today at Number 2 with greatest hits release, ‘The Ultimate Collection’.
