Eurovision 2025: Malta's Miriana Conte unveils new version of entry song: Serving

The Eurovision hopeful told fans "diva not down!" after deciding to rename her song.

Malta's Eurovision hopeful Miriana Conte has renamed her controversial single Kant – she will now compete in Basel with Serving.

Miriana revealed on Instagram earlier this week that Eurovision organisers the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) have "decided against using the Maltese word Kant" in the song, prompting her to rework it.

Though Miriana didn't specify why the word "kant" has been censored – it means "singing" in Maltese – it is widely presumed that the problem is its similarity to an English-language expletive.

Miriana's bop features the hook "serving kant", which evokes a colloquial expression that is popular in the queer drag world. However, Miriana told BBC Newsnight: "To me [the song] means I'm 'serving singing' nothing more, nothing less."

She also told fans on Instagram: "While I'm shocked and disappointed, especially since we have less than a week to submit the song, I promise you this: the show will go on - Diva NOT down."

So, to ensure she can compete in Basel, Miriana has renamed her song "Serving" and scrubbed the word "kant" from its lyrics.

Meanwhile, the UK's Eurovision hopefuls Remember Monday – a country-pop trio comprising Lauren Byrne, Holly-Anne Hull and Charlotte Steele – released their Basel contender What the Hell Just Happened? last Friday (7 March).

They're the first girl-group to represent the UK since Precious in 1999. They finished in a creditable 12th place and took their Eurovision song Say It Again to Number 6 on the Official Singles Chart.

According to the latest odds, Remember Monday are 11th favourites to emerge victorious in Basel, but there's still plenty of time for the trio to gain momentum. This year's Eurovision grand final takes place on 17 May following two semi-finals on 13 and 15 May. Bring all of it on, quite frankly.
