Eurovision 2024's Olly Alexander: "Sam Ryder and Mae Muller's chart success inspired me to enter"
Last year, Eurovision broke Official Chart records as no less than four tracks from the contest made the Official Singles Chart Top 10 simultaneously; the most in the competition's history.
The success of Loreen's Tattoo, Käärijä's Cha Cha Cha, Mae Muller's I Wrote A Song and Alessandra's Queen Of Kings, following Sam Ryder's Number 2-peaking SPACE MAN in 2022, illustrated how Eurovision songs can transcend the contest and make their mark on the mainstream.
Something 2024 United Kingdom representative Olly Alexander explains influenced his decision to put Dizzy forward for the contest.

Asked if the chart success of Sam and Mae in recent years inspired him to enter the contest, Olly told Official Charts: "100 percent. I thought 'this is such a great opportunity for my song.'
"I've been away for a couple of years, my last album came out a few years ago. I'm releasing music as Olly Alexander and Dizzy's the first song from my new album.
"I've got lots of new music ready to go, and I hope that this experience will be a brilliant platform for my song. Recent years have shown that people love these songs at Eurovision, they do really well on the chart and they've really been embraced by a younger audience. That was definitely part of the decision."

Recently teasing his 'unexpected' Grand Final performance, taking place at Sweden's Malmö Arena on Saturday May 11, Olly told Official Charts: "I'm glad you like [the song]! I'm honestly so relieved [it's out there]; I've been sitting on the song for so long. I was juts like 'wow, this song needs to come out now.' I'm really happy it's out, I'm excited to perform the song!
"My performance will be unexpected, memorable and enchanting."
Olly Alexander's Dizzy is out now via Polydor.
