Emeli Sande set to return to top of the Official Albums Chart
Emeli Sande’s Our Version Of Events looks set to continue its record-breaking run by returning to the top of the Official Albums Chart on Sunday.
After breaking chart records by clocking up the most consecutive weeks in the Official Albums Chart Top 10 of any solo artist’s debut album in British history last week, Emeli Sande’s seemingly unstoppable rise continues as Our Version Of Events looks set to return to Number 1 on Sunday.
Our Version Of Events is only the second debut album to achieve such a feat, the other being The Beatles’ Please Please Me, which clocked up 62 consecutive weeks in the Top 10 following its release in 1963.
If she can maintain her lead over fellow countryman Calvin Harris’ 18 Months (Number 2) it will be Emeli’s eighth week at Number 1, and 48th week in the Official Albums Chart Top 10 overall. Our Version Of Events was the biggest selling album of 2012, and has now sold over 1.4 million copies in the UK to date.
This week’s Official Albums Chart Update Top 5 is entirely made up of former Number 1 albums. In addition to Our Version Of Events (1) and 18 Months (2), Jake Bugg’s self-titled debut climbs one place to Number 3, while Rihanna’s Unapologetic is up three places to Number 4. The Top 5 is completed by Ed Sheeran’s + (5).
Further down the Top 10, Black Veil Brides look set to score their highest charting album to date with Wretched And Devine: The Story Of The Wild Ones (8). The US rockers’ third full-length was recently awarded four out of five Ks by rock bible Kerrang!, and the band are set to headline the magazine’s annual UK tour which kicks off in Cardiff next month.
