Emeli Sande finishes 2012 at the top of the Official Albums Chart
Emeli Sande finishes her incredible year at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart.
In what has been an incredible year for Emeli Sande, the Scottish singer / songwriter finishes 2012 at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart.
Sande, who won the BRIT Awards Critics’ Choice Award earlier this year, has gone on become one of 2012’s biggest selling artists, and was invited to perform at both the opening AND closing ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
"It's weird to think this time last year no one knew who I was,” Emeli recently told Scottish entertainment site, www.list.co.uk. “I've since had a Number 1 album, two Number 1 singles and performed in front of the world at the opening and closing Olympic ceremonies. "My highlight of the year was stepping out to sing Abide with Me at the Olympics opening ceremony. That was a huge moment.”
Her debut album, Our Version Of Events, was released in February of this year and has spent an impressive 46 weeks in the Official Albums Chart Top 10 (including seven non-consecutive weeks at Number 1). To date it has sold nearly 1.4 million copies, making it the biggest selling album of 2012.
Former X Factor contestant turned Xtra Factor host Olly Murs holds firm at Number 2 on this week’s Official Albums Chart with Right Place, Right Time, while Rihanna’s Unapologetic climbs three places from Number 6 to Number 3. This week’s Top 5 is completed by Michael Buble’s Christmas (Number 4) and Bruno Mars’ Unorthodox Jukebox (5).
