Emeli Sande looks set to return to the top of the Official Albums Chart on Sunday, thanks to her performances at the London 2012 Olympic Games opening and closing ceremonies.
The Scottish singer’s debut album, Our Version Of Events, has climbed three places to retake the Number 1 position on today’s Official Chart Update. And, if the album can maintain its Olympics sales boost, Our Version Of Events is on course to overtake Adele’s 21 as the biggest selling album of 2012 so far.
According to the Official Charts Company’s latest sales data, Our Version Of Events is just 39,000 copies behind 21 in year-to-date sales. However, Our Version Of Events still has a long way to go before eclipsing 21’s total sales; since it was released January, 2011, 21 has sold 4.4 million copies in the UK, making it the fifth biggest-selling album of all-time.
Emeli Sande is also leading the Olympics charge on the Official Singles Chart Update, too. Emeli features on the lion’s share (six) of the 78 tracks from the opening and closing ceremonies which look set to enter the Official Singles Chart Top 200 on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Paloma Faith’s Fall To Grace climbs three places to Number 2, while London indie rockers Spector look set to debut at Number 3 with Enjoy It While It Lasts.
Also riding the London 2012 wave, Ed Sheeran’s + is up four places to Number 4 and Elbow’s The Seldom Seen Kid , which was last in the Top 5 three years ago, climbs 134 places from 139 to Number 5. Sales of the Spice Girls' Greatest Hits album are also up since the closing ceremony; on today’s Official Albums Chart Update, it climbs 155 places to Number 9.
New Entries
In addition to Spector’s Enjoy It While It Lasts (Number 3), there are five other new entries on today’s Official Albums Chart Update.
Britain’s Got Talent star Ryan O'Shaughnessy’s eponymous debut album is new in at Number 6, while Brit rockers While She Sleeps and Don Broco are currently at Number 13 with This Is The Six and Number 14 with Priorities, respectively. A new Kinks Greatest Hits collection, Waterloo Sunset, looks set to chart at Number 25, while US pop-punks Yellow Card complete this week’s Official Albums Chart Update new entries with Southern Air debuting at 38.
