Elvis is currently 7,000 chart sales ahead of another new entry and nearest rival Rod Stewart, who will be hoping Another Country can overtake The King and give him a ninth Number 1 album.
Continuing the new entries, Elbow frontman Guy Garvey starts at Number 3 this week with his first solo release Courting The Squall, while former Britain’s Got Talent finalists Jack Pack look set to make their Top 10 debut. The swing four-piece’s self-titled first album is new at Number 4.

I've always liked Elvis's music, I don't worship him or any nonsense like that, i just think this is a Lovely Album to listen to.. The Vocals are so clear, and with the RPOrchestra supplying the music, one of the worlds Best, it's just an Amazing Album for Old or New fans :)
BellBino
The British have a strange obsession with Elvis. Yes, the man had a nice voice but what else? Why you folks worship at the Elvis altar and treat the Beatles -- who were MUCH more influential globally and MUCH more creative -- with such disdain these days is a puzzle.

Mats
Well, you dont know your Beatles history very well do you. Even the Beatles themselves would disagree with you. I t was John Lennon who said " without Elvis there would have been no Beatles". So...
BellBino
The Beatles were also influenced by Buddy Holly and Little Richard and Martha and the Vandellas. Meanwhile John Lennon was prone to exaggerated comments. If you'd asked him the same question the next day, he would have said Elvis was over-rated. Anyway, the Beatles only liked Elvis before he went into the army.
My larger point was that it's weird that the Brits adore Elvis and love to tear down the Beatles.
toddbook
No, Lennon would not have ever said "Elvis was over-rated". He made many remarks about how Elvis was the one that made him want to be in rock and roll. It was the same for Paul McCartney. Love both Elvis and the Beatles. I can understand that they adored Elvis but don't understand why they would dis the Beatles???
Elvis didn't have just a "nice" voice, he has one of the most versatile voices ever. He is in more Music Hall of Fame's than anyone including . . . Rock n Roll, Country, Blues, Gospel...
Guillermo F. Perez-Argüello
What else? Here's what Elvis had that makes him the 66th, 79th, and 117th most influential human that ever set foot on this earth. And this according to lists published by the Atlantic (2006) and National Geographic (2015) magazines, as well as by Pantheon (2008), an MIT launched online program which maps cultural development and ranks the influence and popularity, TODAY of every person born after 4000 BC. He is not just the most IMPORTANT, ECLETIC AND ELASTIC singer in history, let's get that out of the way, but inspite of being born in the utmost poverty, in the then poorest state of the Union, only to move at age 13 to the second poorest, became the most celebrated person, regular Army recruit, television and motion picture personality of his time, as well as for at least five years, his country's largest individual taxpayer, without EVER being in the list of the 1000 wealthiest americans. His home is the only private residence in the US, other than the White House or any of the Presidential retreats, to have hosted an official meeting between a sitting President of the United States and a Head of a foreign Governnment, and all of it in spite of the latter official being a national of the only country against which the US ever staged a total war, including the use of two major atomic weapons. He is the only person who was not a US President but whose home, and last resting place, has thus been visited by 20 million people, and the second person, after several Presidents and MKL, to have been the subject of not one, but two commemorative US stamps. He is the only American with 5 personal exhibits in as many US Presidential Libraries and the only singer to have been named a member of 9 Music Hall of Fames. His humantarian efforts, including helping towards the construction of St Jude's Hospital,. starting in 1957, or his taking the third and still untested version of Jonas Salks anti polio vaccine, live on all three channels on 28 October 1956, a 5 minute advocacy which resulted in the exponential increase of the immunization level of all Americans from 0.6 to 80% in a six month period, or his timely contribution towards the construction of what is today's Hawaii's greatest tourist attraction, the USS Arizona Memorial which he helped built, with one fifth of its cost, in 1961 (63 million tourists to date) is but a fraction of why Presley really matters, having an influence, as he does, today, in the tourist industry in 4 states if the Union, namely TN, MS, NV and HI. And Mr, Belbino, how do you REALLY like them apples?
Brian Quinn
The Beatles were a group. Elvis did it all on his own. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Elvis will be No.1 on Friday. When were The Beatles last at No.1? Many years ago with 'Beatles 1'. Elvis was also the best looking male of all time and he had the best moves of any artist. The Beatles had no stage act whatsoever. What you do not realise is that Elvis was extremely creative in the studio and it was he who was in complete control of the other singers/musicians. Elvis was also a great actor when given a decent script. When did the Beatles make an acting film? Elvis was much more than a singer/entertainer he was truly a historic figure. It was he alone who broke down negative social and cultural attitudes in 1950's U.S.A. thus furthering the cause of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jnr. and The Civil Rights Movement. In doing this he made it easier for all entertainers, including The Beatles, who followed in his footsteps of whatever culture, race or religion. The whole world owes Elvis a huge debt. There will never be another like him. He was truly 'Sui Generis'.

Please give your evidence for this unfounded comment.

Beatles is considered old hat .. Elvis was way ahead of his time with music and fashion.. simply iconic
BellBino
Elvis died on the toilet, an obese drug addict. He was only ahead of his time fashionwise for the 2 or 3 years before he went into the army. The Beatles changed hair and fashion styles far more than Elvis.
But your comment proves my point. You worship an American artist over a brilliant influential British band. That's really weird.
BellBino
What? Elvis didn't write his own songs, play his own songs, or even devise his own image (the colonel did that). The Beatles did all of those things, and changed pretty much everything about how pop music was made. Elvis was a great singer.
And the fact that the Beatles haven't been No. 1 in a while in Britain proves my point. Brits value an American over their own homegrown talent. Sad.
BellBino
Quote from John Lennon on meeting Elvis: "It was a load of rubbish. It was like meeting Engelbert Humperdinck." And another Lennon quote: "Elvis really died the day he joined the army. That's when they killed him, and the rest was a living death."
Or were you asking for evidence of the disrespect Brits have for the Beatles? That's obvious in the fact that you are making yet another Elvis album No. 1, and you don't support a massively influential band from your own country that was every bit as influential as Elvis and the Beatles still are today. The UK treats the Beatles as ... -hum. It's bizarre.
Brian Quinn
What's weird about it. Elvis was a troubadour. The Beatles were not. They merely followed in his footsteps. Further, they are destined to drop in popularity once the remaining members are dead. They refuse to update their sound and eventually will suffer for it. By the way your comment about Elvis dying on the toilet is crass. If you care to check out any poll on hairstyles in the past ten years you will see that Elvis' quiff comes out at No.1 on every occasion. The Beatles are usually not in the Top 5. Check Google.

The Beatles were in awe of elvis .
Harrison saw elvis in 72 and stated he had the presence of a Indian god.
Weird?
Elvis was the first artist in hx to.be called a business
First mTV unplugged like show
" it was the success and artistry of elvis at sun records and later rca that made me form tamla"
Barry Gordy Jr
Tamla soon became motown
Jimmy hendrix was inspired to guitar after seeing elvis at age nine
Brian Quinn
That's because the British have good taste in music. Not sad at all but great.
BellBino
A troubadour? LOL. Elvis didn't compose anything. Yes, the Beatles were influenced by Elvis and then lost interest in him when he turned to a career in cheesy movies and songs. As for the Beatles "refusing to update their sound"? What ARE you talking about? No band developed their sound and image and changed it more than the Beatles. It's Elvis that never changed his sound at all and pushed no boundaries artistically after 1956; he was just treading water.
And crass or not, Elvis dying on the toilet, due to problems caused by his excessive drug abuse.
BellBino
Elvis was a great singer, but that's about it. The Beatles were game changers.
Mitch Michelle
It looks like we have a Beatles nut-hugger here lol!
BellBino
Can't I have a bit of trolling fun? It's allowed.

You seem obsessed by elvis dying on the toilet if you have ever experienced death which I think you haven't then you would know what happens when we all die and you don't have to be on the toilet maybe you need to get a life
I love the beatles and so did elvis why don't you get off your jealousy stool and just enjoy what both artists left for us
Brian Quinn
And still is. It's The Beatles who are not moving with the times.

John Lennon said . Before Elvis there was nothing. Certainly the Beatles were Great No doubt. But Why i think Elvis Is better. For a start He covered every kind of music . Jazz. Country. Blues. Hard Rock. Rock n Roll. Gospel music. Powerful Ballard . to love songs. Plus he performed in Many different kind of Styles on stage. And was very dynamic. He was cool looking guy as well. Not important but it adds up to the full package. All that and he never toured the world. Every other Artist including the Beatles had to tour or promote themselves . Advertising and what have ya. But Elvis never done any of that. Elvis is the most impersonated artist of all time. 38 Years since he died and look where he is N0 1 In the Album charts.

If Elvis Presley's latest album hits #1 in the UK Official chart by this week's end, it shall increase the span between two #1 albums by the same artist, in the almost 60 year history of the UK album chart to a stratospherical 59 years and 4 days, his first #1 album being his freshman effort, entitled "Rock and Roll" in the UK, and which reached the #1 position on November 4, 1956 , staying there for a single week. The most likely candidates to best this particular achievement other than Presley himself, either in the not so distant future or obviously later are not just the previous two chart toppers, namely Frank Sinatra, who topped the 1st UK album chart in July of 1956 and Bill Haley who did it on 1st October of 1956, but the producers of "Carousel", "Oklahoma" and the "King and I", three soundtracks albums which topped the chart from August to October of 1956. It would also return him to the top of the list of solo artists, sharing equal billing with Madonna, who has already 12 UK #1 albums. The Beatles lead with seventeen,.
