Elton John becomes third musician to achieve rare EGOT status
Elton is only the 19th person ever to have been awarded an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.
Elton John has become on the third musician - and 19th person ever - to reach EGOT status, following his Emmy win last night.
Seen as one of the hardest titles to achieve in the world of entertainment, EGOT status means that a person has managed to win all four of the most prominent US art awards; an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony.
Last night, at the 75th Emmy Awards, Sir Elton walked away with his first-ever Emmy award for Outstanding Variety Special (Live), given to his concert film Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium, which hit streaming service Disney+ last year.
It was the music legend's last US date of his final-ever tour before his retirement from live performing, Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

Elton has previously taken home five Grammys, has won two Oscars for Best Original Song (for Can You Feel The Love Tonight from The Lion King and (I'm Gonna) Love Me Again from Rocketman) and a Tony for Best Original Score for his 2000 play, Aida.
Despite the good news, Elton was unable to attend the awards last night, due to recovery from a knee operation, but in a statement, he said he was "honoured to have joined the hallowed ranks of EGOT winners, here’s to the joy of music and the magic it brings to our lives!" He also thanks long-time musical collaborator Bernie Taupin and his husband and manager, David Furnish.
And just in case you're wondering the only other two musicians to achieve EGOT status? None other than John Legend and Jennifer Hudson.
Of course, Elton is no stranger to entering the history books. He's one of the most successful and long-standing acts on the Official Chart - with no less than 10 Number 1 singles to his name, and an accompanying eight Number 1 albums.
His 1997 single, Candle In The Wind, is the best-selling single of all time in the UK and in 2021, he became an Official Charts record-breaker, becoming the first (and so far, only) act to score a Top 10 single in six consecutive decades.
That same year, he also added three Number 1 singles to his all-time tally; Cold Heart with Dua Lipa, Merry Christmas with Ed Sheeran and 2021's Official Christmas Number 1 single, Sausage Rolls for Everyone with LadBaby and Ed Sheeran.
