Elton John and Britney Spears embrace Number 1 on the Official Trending Chart with Hold Me Closer
Elton John and Britney Spears have made a defiant debut at Number 1 on the Official Trending Chart.
The brand new track features the new first new vocal from Britney since 2016's Glory album, and sees her return to the spotlight after years of personal and legal troubles, and a welcome return it is for one of our undeniable, living pop legends.
Hold Me Closer - much like the Dua Lipa collaboration Cold Heart before it - is a composite of several classic Elton tracks; namely Tiny Dancer, The One and Don't Go Breaking My Heart. While Britney's vocals were produced by Watt (Miley Cyrus, Rita Ora) this year, Elton's are taken from the original recordings, although he did play piano on the track.
Currently, Hold Me Closer is in a three-way battle for Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart this week. It's right now at Number 3, but a small margin of less than 1,200 copies currently seperate it from Eliza Rose's B.O.T.A (Baddest Of Them All) and current eight-week Number 1 titan Afraid To Feel by LF SYSTEM.

Elsewhere, we have another big new entry this week from David Guetta and Bebe Rexha with I'm Good (Blue), their re-working of Eiffell 65's cult classic Blue (Da Be Dee), which was originally recorded and scrapped in 2017, before being resurrected and re-recorded thanks to going viral on TikTok.
There are further new entries from DJ Khaled with God Did (featuring Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, John Legend and Fridayy), Bugzy Malone and Mist with Energy, Lil Tjay and Beat The Odds and D-Block Europe's Man In The Mirror.
We also have debuts from Afrobeats star Rema with Calm Down, DJ Khaled, Future and SZA's Beautiful and, finally, Inverness singer-songwriter Katie Gregson-Macleod's breakthrough track Complex, which has gotten massive traction on TikTok and has been compared to similar viral hits Drivers License by Olivia Rodrigo and Lauren Spencer-Smith's Fingers Crossed.
And finally, our one big mover of the week is Lizzo's 80s-tastic bop 2 Be Loved (Am I Ready), after the Max Martin-produced bop got a high-budget live TV debut at the MTV VMAs.

Wish her all the best but I wish she had returned with a better song than this. It's so generic and without any personality. The most bland club beat from the 2010s, a few lame flashy effects with trashy over-processed vocals. Kind of a cover of Tiny Dancer except it's just the chorus repeated for the whole song, so it goes nowhere.
If it goes to #1, I'll salute Elton's stat padding hustle, but she deserves better.
