Ellie Goulding has given fans an update on her new album, teasing that it will be "a little different" from last year's Higher Than Heaven.

Released in April 2023, Higher Than Heaven became Ellie's fourth LP to hit Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart, which puts her joint eighth among the female artists with the most chart-topping albums

At the time, she said Higher Than Heaven was "the least personal album" of her career but also "the best" because she was able to "explore other things about myself".

Now, speaking about her follow-up LP, Ellie told The Sun: "This time, it’s a little different."

She explained: “I’ve been writing about what’s been going on in my life. But also just observations, friends, my connection with nature – the usual things that I tend to gravitate towards writing about, maybe slightly more elevated or evolved from the last album.

“I’ve had more time to get in the studio and spend the time and sit," Ellie continued. "Songs don't come that easily to me, especially when they’re from more of a personal place. Sometimes the best songs come from just sitting around, drinking tea, talking. It’s been time-consuming, but it’s time that I've needed to take."

Ellie definitely deserves to take her time after a busy 2023 in which she also scored her fourth Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart – with Miracle, a trance collaboration with Calvin Harris.

Miracle topped the Official Singles Chart for eight non-consecutive weeks in 2023, becoming Ellie's longest-running chart-topper in the UK. With four Number 1s, Ellie now has the same chart-topping tally as Rita Ora, Dua Lipa and Geri Halliwell (!) with only Cheryl (5) and Jess Glynne (7) having more.

She and Calvin have since teamed up for another club-friendly hit, Free, which peaked at Number 35 in August of this year.
