Ellie Goulding on track for first ever Number 1 single!
Ellie Goulding looks set to score her first ever Number 1 single this weekend with new track, Burn.
Ellie Goulding could be on course for her first ever Number 1 single this weekend, the OfficialCharts.com can reveal.
The 26-year-old singer/songwriter from Herefordshire looks set to knock reigning chart queen Miley Cyrus’ We Can’t Stop off the top spot with her new single, Burn. The track, which is taken from the forthcoming deluxe edition of her latest album, Halcyon, is currently outselling its closest competitor, Avicii’s Wake Me Up (Number 2) by almost two copies to one.
Should Ellie maintain her current lead, Burn will be her highest charting single to date; her cover of Elton John’s Your Song peaked at Number 2 on the Official Singles Chart in 2010. However, the Lady Gaga pop machine has started up and is thundering its way towards the Top 10 with new single Applause after only a few hours on sale, so anything could feasibly happen between now and Sunday.
Miley Cyrus’ We Can’t Stop falls two places to Number 3 on today’s Official Singles Chart Update, while Cedric Gervais’ remix of Lana Del Rey’s Summertime Sadness holds firm at Number 4. Meanwhile, Arctic Monkeys’ are new in at Number 5 today with Why’d You Call Me When You’re High, which is taken from their hotly anticipated new album, AM (out September 9).
New Entries and High Climbers
Following hot on the heels of their Number 4 smash Walks Like Rihanna last month, badboy boyband The Wanted look set to return to the Top 10 with new single, We Own The Night (Number 6).
London DJ and producer Ray Foxx is set to make his Official Singles Chart debut with summer dance anthem Boom Boom (Heartbeat) FT Rachel K Collier (13), while The Vaccines are new in at 34 with the lead track from their new EP, Melody Calling.
Drake’s Hold On We’re Going Home FT Majid Jordan has shot up 41 places putting it on track to make its Top 40 debut on today’s Official Singles Chart Update at 15, while OneRepublic’s new single Counting Stars, climbs three places to Number 40.
The Official Singles Chart Update Top 40 is as follows. The final Official Singles Chart Top 100 will be posted in full here at 7pm on Sunday (August 18).
