Duke Dumont, P!nk, Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead and Psy battle it out for this week’s Official Number 1 single.
Reigning Official Singles Chart topper Need U (100%) by Duke Dumont and A*M*E is still leading the race to Number 1 on this week’s Official Singles Chart.
The track, which knocked Ant and Dec’s Let’s Get Ready To Rhumble off the top spot last Sunday (April 7), is still in pole position on today’s Official Singles Chart sales flash. Need U (100%) has sold over 40,000 so far this week, up to midnight last night (Thursday, April 11).
P!nk FT Nate Ruess’ Just Give Me A Reason is at Number 2 today, followed by Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead by the cast of the 1939 film The Wizard Of Oz (Number 3).
Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead shot up the Official Singles Chart due to an online campaign to get it to Number 1 following the death of Margaret Thatcher on Monday (April 8). The former British Prime Minister passed away following a stroke. She was 87.
Ding Dong!… has climbed one place since yesterday’s Official Charts sales flash was published. From an initial sales gap of 16,000 copies on Wednesday, the track has closed in on the Number 1 by 2,000 copies per day with two days of the chart week left to run, but is still currently 12,000 copies behind Need U (100%).
Both singles face tough competition from two new tracks which are set to make their Official Top 40 debuts on Sunday.
Gentleman, the hotly anticipated follow-up to the international mega-hit Gangnam Style by South Korean rapper Psy, was made available as a digital download at midnight last night. Though it has been was released too late to make it into today’s sales flash, given his previous success, Gentleman is expected to make a key impact on Sunday’s Official Singles Chart.
Gangnam Style topped the singles charts in 27 countries across the globe, and is just one of 131 tracks to sell over a million copies in the UK. Earlier this week the Official Charts Company revealed that Gangnam Style is one of the Top 20 most downloaded singles of all-time.
And finally, World Wrestling Entertainment composer Jim Johnston’s Chachalala (Fandango), has entered the Top 40 on today’s sales flash. Chachalala…, which is the theme song of WWE wrestler Fandango (real name Curtis Hussey), is currently at Number 37.
The week’s Official Singles Chart Top 40 will be counted down on Radio 1’s Official Chart Show with Jameela Jamil on Sunday (April 14) from 4pm. The full Official Singles Chart Top 100 will be posted on OfficialCharts.com at 7pm Sunday.
The next sales update after today (Friday, April 12) will come when the Official Chart is counted down on BBC Radio 1 this Sunday from 4pm.
