Doctor Who's Janis Goblin issues statement on Christmas Number 1 bid The Goblin Song
With the race for 2023's Official Christmas Number 1 commencing this Friday December 15, #XmasNo1 contenders are campaigning hard to claim the most coveted chart-topper of the year.
Wham! are releasing Last Christmas on CD for the first time ever, Sam Ryder's taking The Sam-ta Grotto Bus around the country to push You're Christmas To Me and Creator Universe are shouting about I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday across their socials. That all-important promo's properly kicked in.
And nobody's working harder than Doctor Who's Janis Goblin, who's issued a statement on her attempt. The Goblin Song, released in aid of BBC Children in Need, is taken from the upcoming Christmas Day episode The Church on Ruby Road, was written by showrunner Russell T Davies with music by Doctor Who composer Murray Gold.

The track sees Janis and her team of outer space goblins sing of eating human babies (festive!); its chorus introducing the group's leader, the Goblin King.
Taking to Twitter, Janis Goblin said: "Dear foolish humans. I'd like to thank you, with all the bile in my heart.
"I'm told all proceeds from the sale of The Goblin Song will go to Children in Need. Which means, more children for us to eat!
"That's very kind, I must say...what's that? It's not? They don't? Hmph. Then what do I say...? Ahem.
"Dear foolish humans, if you continue to support The Goblin Song, then I absolutely promise not to eat...oh to hell with that, pass me those twins. MUNCH!"
Iconic scenes.

The Goblin Song wouldn't be the first time Doctor Who's made its mark on the Official Singles Chart. Back in 1988, a novelty single by The Timelords (comprising KLF members Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty) reached Number 1.
Could the Goblins be in with a shot at this year's festive chart-topper?
Wham!'s Last Christmas currently sits atop the Official Singles Chart, and even tracks for a second consecutive week at Number 1, making it the song to beat this year.
Elsewhere, classics including Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas is You and The Pogues ft. Kirsty MacColl's Fairytale of New York will be hoping to climb and claim the trophy.
