DJ Fresh looks set to take Gotye's Official Singles Chart crown
Drum ‘n’ Bass and dubstep producer DJ Fresh (real name Daniel Stein) is back on top with new single Hot Right Now FT Rita Ora.
The follow up to 2011’s smash hit Louder FT Sian Evans, which became the first dubstep single to reach Number 1,shifting over 140,000 copies in its first week on sale, Hot Right Now has stormed ahead of the pack in today’s Official Singles Chart Update, leading by 17,000 copies over Emeli Sande’s Next To Me (2). Last week’s chart topper, Gotye and Kimbra's Somebody I Used To Know, follows at Number 3.
Following her success at the Grammys this past weekend, Adele’s Rolling In The Deep climbs 36 places to return to the Top 40 at Number 40.
Whitney Houston fans out in force buying the late singer’s hits
UK fans of Whitney Houston have been out in force since the tragic news of the pop legend’s death at the weekend, paying tribute to her by purchasing a vast array of her hit records.
Over 100,000 units of Whitney’s recorded music products have been snapped up by fans remembering the singer’s vocal talents since midnight on Saturday, nearly 82,000 singles and over 37,000 albums. Today’s Official Chart Update shows 27 individual Whitney tracks peppering the Top 200, five of which feature in the Top 40, and a significant 19% of tracks in the Top 100 feature the late singer.
Perhaps predictably led by Whitney’s smash hit cover of Dolly Parton’s I Will Always Love You, which spent 10 weeks at Number 1 upon its release 20 years ago this year, and went on to become the biggest selling single of 1992. The track continues to lead the way today, entering the Update at Number 10. I Wanna Dance With Somebody which spent two weeks in the Number 1 spot upon its release in 1987, is set to re-enter the chart at Number 14, with One Moment In Time (29), My Love Is Your Love (30), and I Have Nothing (34), completing the Top 40.
The late singer’s Greatest Hits album is on course to break all the way into the Official Albums Chart Top 10 this weekend, today taking up position at Number 7, with The Essential Whitney Houston also making an appearance at 70.
