Did the right contestant win The Voice?
…not according to what the British public have been buying this week!
On Saturday night (April 5) Jermain Jackman was crowned the winner of this year’s series of the BBC One’s reality TV singing contest, The Voice.
The 19-year-old from London beat the bookies’ favourite, Sally Barker, to the prize scoring victory for Team Will.I.Am and himself a £100,000 recording contract.
However, according to today’s Official Charts Company’s latest sales data, Jermain isn’t the biggest-selling Voice contestant so far this week – Sally Barker is!
54-year-old Sally‘s cover of Olly Murs’ Dear Darlin’ has rocketed into the Official Singles Chart midweek update at Number 35 today.
Jermain’s version of And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going is currently trailing outside of the Top 40, 15 places behind at Number 50, while fellow finalist Christina Marie’s cover of The Power Of Love is at 52 today.
Meanwhile, coach Ricky Wilson is pipping all three contestants! Following the success of their Number 1 album, Education, Education, Education And War, on Sunday, the Kaiser Chiefs’ new single that he performed on the show with protégé Christina Marie, Coming Home, has climbed 17 places to enter the Official Singles Chart Update Top 40 at 28.
