Daft Punk on course for fastest selling album of the year with Random Access Memories, while Get Lucky becomes 2013’s biggest selling single.

Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories looks set to become the fastest selling album of 2013. According to the Official Charts Company’s sales data, up to midnight last night (Tuesday, May 21), over 104,000 copies of the French duo’s fourth studio album were purchased in the UK.

During its first 48 hours on sale, Random Access Memories has already become the third fastest selling album of the year so far, and is just 1,000 copies behind the second fastest selling album of 2013 - Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience. If Daft Punk’s sales momentum continues at its current rate, RAM will overtake the first week tally of 121,000 of this year’s current fastest seller, Michael Buble’s To Be Loved, by tomorrow morning.

In related news, Random Access Memories’ lead single, Get Lucky, today becomes the UK’s biggest selling single of 2013 so far. The track, which features N*E*R*D’s Pharrell Williams and Chic’s Nile Rodgers, has shot ahead of previous leader, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ ode to charity shop bargain hunting, Thrift Shop FT Wanz, by nearly 20,000 copies. Get Lucky has sold a staggering 649,000 copies in just over 5 weeks.

This week’s Top 5 is completed by new entries from 30 Seconds To Mars, who could potentially score their highest charting UK album to date with Love, Lust, Faith + Dreams (4) and Texas, who are set for their sixth Top 10 album with The Conversation (5).
