The French robots Daft Punk FT Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers surge ahead on today’s Official Singles Chart Update, while Britain’s Got Talent stars Loveable Rogues look set for a Top 5 debut.
Daft Punk’s Get Lucky, which crashed into the Official Singles Chart at Number 3 on Sunday after just 48 hours on sale, has gained further momentum and looks set to hit Number 1 this weekend. According to today’s Official Chart Update, the French duo FT N.E.R.D’s Pharrell Williams and Chic guitarist Nile Rodgers are currently ahead of reigning chart toppers, Rudimental‘s Waiting All Night FT Ella Eyre (Number 2) by 28,000 copies.
If they can maintain their lead, this will be Daft Punk’s first ever UK Number 1 single, and they will join a small group of French acts including the likes of Serge Gainsbourg, Modjo, Charles Aznavour, Mr Oizo and David Guetta to have reached the top spot in the Official Singles Chart’ 60+ year history. The duo’s previous best position was the Number 2 slot with One More Time in 2000.
Meanwhile, Will.I.Am’s #ThatPower FT Justin Bieber slips one place to Number 3, and Calvin Harris’ I Need Your Love FT Ellie Goulding climbs from 7 to 4. Harris recently became the first artist in history to clock up eight Top 10 singles from one album, beating Michael Jackson’s previous record of seven.
Britain’s Got Talent 2012 finalists Loveable Rogues – fresh from their Olly Murs support slot – are set to debut in the Top 5 with their first single What A Night (5).

Passenger – AKA UK singer songwriter Mike Rosenberg – sees his latest single Let Her Go climb 20 places to enter the Top 40 midweek at Number 24. The track has topped the national charts in nine countries including Australia, Ireland and Germany.
