Nathan Dawe & Jaykae and Regard & Raye are heading for new peaks this week.

After replacing each other at Number 1 over the last fortnight, DaBaby & Roddy Ricch and Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande continue their battle for chart supremacy this week.

DaBaby and Roddy's Rockstar is currently on course for a fourth non-consecutive week at the top of the Official Singles Chart and is the most streamed song of the week so far. However, Rain On Me by Gaga & Ariana has racked up the most downloads in the first two days of the chart week, keeping them firmly in the race.

The Official Chart: First Look airs on BBC Radio 1 each Sunday between 6pm – 7pm and offers a first glance of the Top 20 ahead of Friday’s Official Singles Chart Top 100. The chart is based on preliminary sales and early streaming reports.

Viral TikTok track Party Girl by StaySolidRocky could enter the Top 20 for the first time this Friday and has risen four places to Number 20 at the halfway mark.

The Official Singles Chart is revealed here on OfficialCharts.com every Friday at 5.45pm. Listen to the Top 40 countdown live on BBC Radio 1's Official Chart show with Scott Mills every Friday from 4pm.

I just don't understand why people stop streaming it because it was supposed to be on No.1 then streams fall down and it goes on No.4. Not fair. I wished I could help this be at No.1 still as it suggested on the First Look Top 20 at the 10th of May because I only streamed it once or twice after the official charts showed that it could of been No.1 and I should of streamed it every day and that would of helped that to debut at No.1.

I like both Rockstar and Rain On Me but I would like Rain On Me to regain the top spot this week. But at least we have a race between two songs for the number one spot, there haven't been many chart battles over the last couple of years.

What do you guys think about "Stuck With U" not being No.1 in the UK and being No.1 in the US?

avatar

Joshua Sombra

0

No wonder "Stuck With U" was not No.1 in the UK because of "Rockstar". I am still sad about it.

avatar

⁉️

0

Well it was at Number 4 anyway, so even without ROCKSTAR it wouldn't get there.

By the way, I don't think there's been a better time to have a song containing the line "f**k a cop car" at #1...

3

Oh, in the wake of these protests? It wouldn’t be surprised if we had a #1 containing “and we hate po-po, wanna kill us dead in the street for sho”. (pun intended), I love Kendrick.

avatar

Piran

3

Yeah, when is Kendrick going to return to the music scene? It's been over three years since '.' was released now.

Looking like a pretty boring chart tbh.

Of course, I love Rockstar, but I think a change will be needed. This isn’t the case with When The Party’s Over though, I wanted that song to go to #1 and never leave! XD Though what comes up must come down, you know what I mean? Hope Rover gets there though.

There’s no debuts but as for the gains? Secrets is a very good song (though it came from the guy who made one of my worst songs of 2019), but Party Girl is mostly bad. And as I thought Blinding Lights would leave the Top 10, it had to return. Fuming! :/

Also, I swear If The World Was Ending has a habit on rebounding, haha.

Break my heart has spent about 2 months now stuck at 11,12 & 3 I swear! Hope it can eventually get back to the top 10 but all I want is flowers to get there, it’s so close!!!

Can see Rockstar having a long period at number 1 aswell I don’t think anything’s catching it at the moment!

Loving the edm vibes in the top 20 tho, secrets is defo a top 10 contender in the coming weeks and hopefully don’t need love can get there!

Also looks like Say So has finally hit acr :/

avatar

2

Wait, Say So hit ACR? Ah well, it had to come someday.

R

Riley

1

It did indeed it has been around a very long time tbf and was originally due to go on it when lonley and don’t start now did but hung around due to the remix!

avatar

Piran

4

For as much as I'd love 'Rain On Me' to return to #1, it's almost certainly that 'Rockstar' will remain there on Friday.

'Flowers' has been so close to entering the Top 10 for ages now, so I really hope it can get there before ACR strikes. I still think it's a good remake of the original! :)

R

Riley

2

It’s so close man I hope it can get there!

avatar

Piran

3

Yeah, we can't let another EDM banger peak at #11, surely? :/

R

Riley

3

We can only hope mate, there’s 3 EDM tunes going for that top 10 right now surely one can get there

J

Jstar

4

Yeah, nothing much going on this week. But again I am pleased with how Rain on Me is holding in the U.K. 3 weeks within the top 2 is a awesome start.

Freaking ACR, the worst rule ever in my opinion.

avatar

Piran

3

Yeah, not just the lack of debuts, but also not very movement in general!

Definitely! Say what you will about the Billboard charts, they at least present the more popular songs of the week higher up in the charts, which is the whole point of music record charts in the first place. :/

avatar

Piran

2

Yeah, but we've still got 'Breaking Me' inside the Top 10 whatever happens! :)

J

Jstar

4

Billboard has many flaws no doubt, but if a song is that big it deserves to rightfully be in that position. You can't have a song with higher sales and streams and somehow be lower on the chart. It defies logic, i am all for variety, but that rule makes no sense whatsoever

avatar

Piran

4

I actually don't mind Billboard's recurrent rules, but I personally don't like that they include radio airplay into their chart formula.

J

Jstar

4

Yeah, but atleast they have reduced it these past few weeks. I understand why it was included throughout its history. But right now radio just shouldn't have as much influence on the charts as it currently does.

avatar

Piran

3

I don't know, I just feel it gives DJs more of an influence on the charts than members of the public, which I personally disagree.

For example, if there's a song that particular presenter or radio station like, then they'll play it during every show they can, while I think we're capped at something like 10 streams per tracking week (at least on Spotify).

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

1

I think they should because why?
Requests from people some people don't like app streaming and downloads they prefer requesting a song on radio I have some people that like requestin hearing a song on radio I think it must be fair that way!

avatar

Piran

1

True, but unfortunately, a good majority of songs that are played on the radio aren't requests, they're chosen from a playlist by that particular presenter or station.

R

Riley

1

A lot of artists have postponed releases till next week due to black lives matter

avatar

Piran

2

Yeah, that's why I'm hoping to see at least one #BlackLivesMatter song return to the Top 40 next week.

Capital FM played 'Changes' by 2Pac ft Talent on The Official Big Top 40 this afternoon!

J

Jstar

1

Just don't tell that to Sunshine Gal lol. I love her but I was trying to explain to her that we live in different times. I understand she is use to the way it use to be. If billboard still decides to include radio i think it should only count like 10% maximum towards the chart.

Yeah there have been a few radio driven hits which I didn't feel deserved to be as high because people weren't buying or streaming it. I feel if people really like a song they will stream or buy it. They can just request songs on radio but that always doesn't make a difference.

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

1

i hear your point but normally like hear in South Africa we have a radio airplay into consideration for chart rules but it is streaming that has more power unlike downloads and lot prefer to stream

R

Riley

1

Omg what a throwback!

Radio one have played Black by Dave a lot I know that but it would be nice to see. I don’t actually think we may get a new entry this week which is concering maybe a couple re entries!

Chris brown & Young thug are just below the top 40 they have a chance and my favourite tune of the year pour the milk finally hit the top 50 last week, I will SO happy if that can hit top 40!

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, because in the UK, streaming actually accounts for over 95% of all music consumption! :O

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

2

I wish Secrets could reach higher at least #10
it's my favourite dance banger at the moment

R

Riley

1

All in good time :)

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, like, if you're going to include radio airplay, only do it from request shows or something.

Streaming actually accounts for something like 95% of all music consumption over here! :O

R

Riley

2

Is it tht high?!!!

The fact is who who’s gonna pay 99p for a song when they can pay 9.99 and stream whatever whenever

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

1

I think we have Breaking Me, Secrets and Flowers as summer contenders once lockdown ends at least sooner

J

Jstar

I believe billboard is one of the few countries to still have radio count as a chart factor. But the only reason I wouldn't get rid of it completely is because most pop songs don't get as many streams as rap songs in the U.S. So it does help those songs to chart a little higher.

I know in the U.K that Apple music and Spotify have a good balance between hip hop and pop. Spotify in the U.S is pretty good with pop but hip hop dominates Apple music in the U.S for some reason. The highest pop song right now is Rain on Me and it is only like 20 right now. So I guess billboard is trying to help out all genres on the chart. But like I mentioned it should definitely be a small factor when it comes to the Hot 100.

2

Yeah, I agree that ROCKSTAR will probably be there Friday, but Rain On Me being there would intresting.

Also really like Flowers, realy hope that goes into the Top 10 soon.

avatar

Piran

0

Glad we agree on all points! :)

Looks like it's going to be a quiet week following on from artists not releasing nor promoting much in the aftermath of George Floyd's death.

avatar

Piran

1

I already looked at this earlier actually.

'Roses' at #1 is cool, but I'm very surprised to see 'I Love Me' in the Top 10! :O

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, the figures were published in the following article from MusicWeek! It says that "downloads remain a component of OCC singles sales (around 5%)", meaning that streaming would have to take up the rest of that;

https://www.musicweek.com/talent/read/everything-you-need-to-know-about-2019-singles-chart-rule-changes/074872

avatar

Piran

1

I think it'll gain a few more places, but I'm not seeing it being as big as 'Ride It' unfortunately.

avatar

Piran

0

I'm surprised 'This Is America' isn't set for a re-entry yet, given that it was in the Top 10 on Spotify a few days ago! :O

avatar

Piran

2

I guess, but pop songs still tend to well in the UK without any radio airplay.

That being said, I feel the rap is consumed even more in the US, so removing airplay from the Billboard charts would see more songs succeed in that genre!

The Rolling Stone Top 100 is a fairly new chart that actually only counts sales & streams for the US: https://www.rollingstone.com/charts/songs/

J

Jstar

1

Yeah, I honestly have no problem with it just being streaming and sales based in the U.S. I just don't think a lot of long time chart followers would be happy with that.

But I understand why rolling stone didn't include radio since it is new chart. Also billboard just published their article so I will be talking on the albums article. Also we are like 14 comments away from 1,200 on the Hot 100 article 😀.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I can see why some people who have been following the Hot 100 for ages would be upset about the change, but the chart formula has to be updated to reflect the formats people are listening to music on.

Oh wow... we could hit 1,200 within the next few minutes then! :D

J

1

Yep, well i think one day billboard will eventually change, but i don't know when that will be.

Well that article will have to wait as I will be on the albums article right now lol.

avatar

Piran

1

Hopefully they'll bring the comments back too, even if I do prefer Headline Planet, haha! :D

No worries! I'll also be on there for a few minutes.

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

1

Even myself it's been pretty doing well on streaming actually for some time and sometimes I tend to hear a lot on radio rotationals

avatar

Piran

1

Interesting to see it doing very well in SA, especially when it's either barely charting or off the charts entirely in almost all other countries.

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

1

But it did took a while to get attention but I think it's going to be one of the biggest drops next week normally songs that takes time to get attention they end up losing attention on streaming even though radio still plays it
Lover Tay Tay!! sorry I like calling her that she took longer to get attention & Camila My Oh My!

Here's the radio charts

http://www.radiomonitor.com/airplay-chart/south_africa-all_radio_(fri_to_thu_by_rams)

avatar

⁉️

1

Yeah. The only music that would make sense to release is protest music, unless it's to make money off it, which would be disgusting.

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, but I can't think of any new protest tracks that came out last Friday. If anything, it'll be more throwbacks!

avatar

Piran

1

Oh wow... the airplay charts are dominated by local artists! :D

avatar

Piran

1

Haha, it's alright! I like calling her Tay-Tay too. :P

avatar

⁉️

1

I was mainly talking about should come out, not what has if that makes sense. The only thing I know that came out is Run The Jewels 4.

avatar

At least Doja is inside top 3 !

I completely missed that, but I'm very happy you mentioned it!

You know how much I adore 'Say So'. ;)
