Could Paolo Nutini be on track for the fastest-selling album of 2014?

Caustic Love clocks up stellar sales to debut at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart midweeks.

Paolo Nutini looks set to end Kaiser Chiefs’ two-week stand at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart this weekend with his third full-length, Caustic Love. And, not only that, the 27-year-old Scottish singer/songwriter is also on track to bag himself the fastest selling artist album of 2014 so far.

According to the Official Charts Company’s latest sales data, the follow-up to Paolo‘s2009 album, Sunny Side Up, has sold more than 59,000 already this week. Caustic Love is currently just 10,000 copies behind the entire first week tally of current record holder, The Power Of Love by Sam Bailey, which topped the Chart last month.

The Vamps look set to score this week’s second highest new entry with Meet The Vamps. The boy band’s debut album, which features Top 5 singles Can We Dance, Wild Heart and Last Night, is at Number 2 today.

Paloma Faith’s A Perfect Contradiction and John Legend’s Love In The Future both slide one place to Number 3 and 4, respectively, while reigning chart-toppers the Kaiser ChiefsEducation, Education, Education And War is down four places to Number 5.

New Entries

In addition to Paolo Nutini’s Caustic Love (Number 1) and The VampsMeet The Vamps (2), there are eight other new entries on today’s Official Albums Chart Update.

Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson is just outside the Top 5 today with his new concept album, Homo Erraticus (6), while former X Factor runner-up Rhydian is new in at 15 today with his fifth album, One Day Like This.

The 25th anniversary edition of the Stone Roses’ 1989 self-titled debut has propelled the album back into the mid-week Top 40 at 23, while Do To The Beast by Afghan Whigs is at 24.

Swedish House Mafia’s One Last Tour - A Live Soundtrack, is new in at 29 midweek, the album was recorded last April during the Los Angeles show of their final world tour, and also serves as the soundtrack to the Swedish DJ collective’s documentary Leave The World Behind.

This week’s new entries are completed by Ben Watt from Everything But The Girl’s new studio album, Hendra (30), former A-ha frontman Morten Harket’s Brother (32), and Billy Bragg’s Live At The Union Chapel London (36).
