Conor Maynard scores debut Number 1 album
Conor Maynard’s 2012 surely can’t get much better, with two Top 5 singles already under his belt, the 19 year old Brighton-based newcomer today conquers the Official Albums Chart with a debut Number 1 for Contrast.
Conor shot to fame in January after beating the likes of Lana Del Rey and Michael Kiwanuka to win MTV’s Brand New For 2012 poll. Conor’s debut single Can’t Say No hit the Number 2 spot upon its release earlier this year, with follow-up single Vegas Girl also earning him a Number 4 hit last Sunday. Contrast features star collaborators including Ne-Yo, Rita Ora and Pharrell and bumps down last week’s chart topper, Plan B’s Ill Manors by one place to Number 2.
Elsewhere, Emeli Sande climbs five places to Number 3 with Our Version Of Events, while Maroon 5’s Overexposed slides one to Number 4. 21-year-old English singer / songwriter Delilah scores a Top 5 with her debut album, From the Roots Up (5), making the Londoner this week’s second highest new entry.
New Entries And Highest Climbers
Legendary British multi-instrumentalist and composer Mike Oldfield, performed at the Olympics opening ceremony, is at Number 6 with his latest Greatest Hits collection, Two Sides – The Very Best Of Mike Oldfield. Meanwhile US rapper Rick Ross complete’s today’s Top 40 new entries with his fifth studio album, God Forgives, I Don’t new in at Number 8.
Justin Bieber’s Believe is this week’s highest climber, breaking back inside the Top 40 and jumping 17 places to Number 24.
