The band had previously said they aim to stop releasing albums following their 12th record.

Chris Martin has announced that Coldplay will stop releasing music in a band in 2025.

Martin made the surprise admission in a trailer for his upcoming Christmas show with DJ Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2.

But for those of you who have been paying attention, the news isn't really news at all. Just this year, the band teased to NME that they would stop releasing music after putting out their 12th album.

But now it seems like the guys have put a finite date to their promise. Speaking to Jo, Martin said: "Our last proper record will come out in 2025, and after that I think we will only tour.

"And maybe we'll do some collaborative things but the Coldplay catalogue, as it were, finishes then."

Coldplay's latest LP, Music of the Spheres is their ninth studio album. Since their debut in 2000, the four-piece have an unbroken run of nine chart-topping studio albums, only Noel Gallagher has more, with 10.

Coldplay now also tie with ABBA and Bob Dylan for acts with nine Number 1 albums on the Official Albums Chart.

So 2022 (10th album), 2023 (11th) and 2024/5 (12th)? I don't know if they are ready to finish a chapter.

They probably would continue releasing music as before beyond 2025 if they take too long to complete the next/last 3 albums or changed their minds...

I do hope this is a promise.
