As for Kylie herself, despite an early taste of Christmas Number 1 success as part of Band Aid II’s Do They Know It’s Christmas? back in 1989, XMAS is Kylie’s first solo credited festive chart-topper. She came close in 1988 with Jason Donovan duet Especially For You, which settled for the Christmas Number 2 spot that year, just behind Cliff Richard’s Mistletoe and Wine.

While Kylie has enjoyed a prolific run of 11 chart-toppers on the Official Albums Chart across her career, plus a glittering comeback to the Official Singles Chart Top 10 in 2023 with viral hit Padam Padam, XMAS marks her first UK Number 1 single since 2003’s Slow. XMAS is Kylie’s eighth UK Number 1 single overall.

Kylie is also the first solo female artist to land the Christmas Number 1 in 12 years, since Sam Bailey’s Skyscraper in 2013.

Rarer still, Kylie’s only the third international female solo artist to bask in UK Christmas Number 1 glory ever. She joins Trinidad-born Winifred Atwell, whose Let’s Have Another Party took the crown in 1954, and US superstar Whitney Houston, who managed it in 1992 with I Will Always Love You.

Omg Kylie, well done!!

I have been a huge fan since buying my first record in 1988, I Should Be So Lucky. I have followed your amazing career, the many ups and downs. I never thought another number 1 would be possible due to streaming, but never underestimate our queen Kylie.

Congratulations Kylie! Nice to have a change from either LadBaby or Wham! for the past seven years, especially when it's by a pop legend like her.

That said, my highlight of the week is seeing 'Lullaby' in the Top 5. Such a beautiful song for a very important cause.
