Chris Brown on course for highest-charting album to date
Chris Brown looks set to score his highest-charting UK album to date on Sunday. According to today’s Official Chart Update, the US singer’s fifth full-length release, Fortune, is on course to knock Linkin Park’s Living Things off the top of the Official Albums Chart.
Fortune, which features the Official Number 1 smash Turn Up The Music and its Number 3 follow-up single, Don’t Wake Me Up, has nearly sold twice as many copies as its closest competitor - Maroon 5’s Overexposed (Number 2) - so far this week. Brown’s previous highest charting albums, 2007’s Exclusive and 2011’s F.A.M.E, reached Number 3 and 10, respectively.
Linkin Park’s Living Things slides two places to Number 3, while Scottish singer/songwriter Emeli Sande’s Our Version Of Events, which is the second biggest selling album of 2012 so far, is at Number 4. Ed Sheeran’s + completes this week’s Official Update Top 5.
New entries and high climbers
In addition to Chris Brown’s Fortune (Number 1) there are two other new entries in today’s Official Albums Chart Update. US country star Mary Chapin Carpenter could be on track for her first UK Top 20 album on Sunday. Her eleventh studio album, Ashes And Roses, is this week’s second highest new entry at Number 19. UK folk punks The King Blues’ fourth and final album, Long Live The Struggle, is at Number 29.
Following their triumphant sold-out reunion shows at Manchester’s Heaton Park over the weekend, Madchester indie gods the Stone Roses’ are tracking as the week’s highest climbers so far. The band’s 1989 self-titled debut album is up 20 places to Number 32, while their Very Best Of collection climbs 13 places to Number 8. US band Fun. also ascend 13 places with Some Nights to Number 15.
